The PS3/Vita version of Pinball FX2 (Zen Pinball 2) is out on Tuesday. It's free and upgrades all the old tables (and Marvel Pinball tables) just like Pinball FX2 did for the old Pinball FX tables.

Also, the Plants vs Zombies table will be out on PSN on the 4th. I am really looking forward to having these tables on my Vita!!

I've been waiting for this release for a while. I think they originally said it would be out before the summer, but that clearly didn't happen. A pinball game on the Vita is going to be great. smile

Wow....that is awesome! Now I get free games for my Vita at no extra cost, just like the PS3 Instant Game Collection! Sony, you have really impressed the hell out of me with PS+....in fact I now hardly play the Xbox anymore. I just play it for Rock Band, since I have all my DLC on it.

Of PlayStation Vita owners, 'almost all' own PlayStation 3 as well

Quote
Sony isn't sharing exact numbers, but Sony Computer Entertainment America VP of marketing, handhelds and home consoles John Koller teased that "almost all" PlayStation Vita owners are also PlayStation 3 owners. We were discussing the potential crossover between Vita and PS3 -- the obvious comparison to Nintendo's latest offering, the Wii U, and its tablet controller. The Vita and the PS3 are capable of producing similar functionality, and, if anything, with higher fidelity, as the Vita is a standalone console.

I bet they wish it was the other way around, with almost all PS3 owners owning a Vita.

Honestly, if the Vita doesn't pan out I have a feeling that they can repurpose it as the next controller for the PS4.

yep:

A retail promotion that offers an 'elite gamer bundle' of both a PS3 and PS Vita this Christmas is a genuine possibility, according to managing director of PlayStation UK.

In an interview with CVG, Fergal Gara said the crossover features and services between the two make a good case for pairing up the duo for a single retail package.

"We'd have nothing against that whatsoever," he said, "And it's not out of the question that we would do that this Christmas if we wanted to.

"We put together packages for retail, and there's no reason why we shouldn't create a 'Vita plus PS3' bundle, which could feature games that use cross-play, as well as include a PlayStation Plus subscription that both devices could use."

I just noticed that a bunch more PS1 games are now available to download from PSN for the Vita.

Final Fantasy Origins, VI, VIII and IX
Darkstalkers 1 & 3
Resident Evil 1, 2 & 3
Mega Man 1, 2, 3 & 4
Chrono Trigger
Chrono Cross
Street Fighter Alpha 1, 2 & 3

Those are the major ones that I remember but there are a bunch more.

Playstation Mobile games launched on Vita this week with no fanfare at all.

There's a slew of games available.  Most about $3.50.

I picked up three good ones:

Aqua Kitty - Basically a Defender clone.  Very nicely done.

Fuel Tiracas - (only $.49) You have to keep a series of fuel containers filled by tapping them and then tapping circles on the screen.  Once they reach optimum level (don't overfill!), move on to the next one.  They add a lot of variety as the game progresses.  NOTE: I have had this game lock up with network issues, but that could just be me.

Rebel - Fantastic game.  You run around an island, having escaped prison, while various cannons and tanks (and, eventually, planes) drop in.  They try to shoot you and you avoid their bullets, deftly putting them in each other's line of fire.  Along the way, you pick up gems that can be used to purchase upgrades as the game progresses.  NOTE: I have had an issue where the guy seems to stop responding to the joystick at inconvenient times.  Let me know if anyone else experiences this.  Even with this issue, the game is a ton of fun.

Nice little system.  my goal is to only rent games or get them for free through PSN Plus though; figure it should be easy enough.

There's always been a bunch of Vita-owners in my vicinity when using the wifi Vita with Near. I think I've seen as many as 30-40 at one point. Then again, I do live in the middle of a "city" (in Norwegian scale), and us Norwegians are usually much more eager to adapt new technology than the average American if my experience with computers is anything to go by.

2.0 got put up last night.  I grabbed it and loaded all my saves into the cloud.  To do that, by the way, you go into Content Manager.  Also, if you want the updates to be automatic, you need to go into Settings and Playstation Network and there will be an option there to pick what you'd like to automatically do each night (assuming you let your Vita go into sleep mode and not turn it off).

If Vita goes on sale for $199 on Amazon for Black Friday I will buy it. I just found out that Amazon will actually sell to me even living in Japan and the thought of getting the Vita, a pack in game, a memory card, 6 free games from PSN+ and a potentially awesome game in Persona 4 will push me over the edge I think.

Amazon has confirmed that they'll have the Assassin's Creed Liberation bundle for $199 starting at 3 AM Eastern US time on Friday.  Rumors have the bundle also including a starter kit (case, screen protector, etc) and possibly Resistance : Retribution.

The Amazon Vita bundle has changed.  It's now starting at 3 PM Eastern US time on Friday and the bundle contains -
White Wi-Fi Vita
Assassin's Creed 3 : Liberation
4 GB Memory Card
Download code for Playstation All-Stars Battle Royale on Vita
3 Months of Playstation Plus
$10 gift card good towards XBox or PS3 version of AC3

All for $179.99 smile

I wasn't planning on getting a Vita anytime soon, but this is way too good a deal to pass up.

still, if it is going to be a lightning deal it probably won't last long.  I just witnessed 2 different ones go from 0% to 100% claimed, and by the time I clicked on 'join waitlist' I was 500+ on the list.  all of that was under 30 seconds of the deals going live.

It's a Gold Box deal, but not a lightning deal.  The Amazon representative said they have a lot of units in stock and they should have enough to last at least a few hours.

Eddie A, I could kiss you!
I forgot to order Persona 4 Golden but what the hell-I can get it some other time. In Japan, just the basic WIFI PS Vita costs almost $300! I will never have as good a chance as this to get a cheap vita. I have never gotten a console so cheaply and started off with so many free games (6PSplus + 2 package + 1 free Motoracers game from a long time ago).

So Sony just practically gave the Vita away and only two of us seemed to have bought it? I managed to get it for about 17,000 yen and I'm planning on selling both games, the memory card and the plus codes for about 7,000 yen so hopefully in the end I'll have gotten a PS Vita for about 10,000 yen or $130 US smile
What is the appropriate memory card size to get. 4 GB is ridiculously small which is why I would like to sell it but 32 GB is pretty damned expensive for what you get. How big are the average PSN game sizes anyways? I'm thinking of full games, not the arcade games.

It varies a lot, but I do know that I have to carefully balance my space usage on the Vita these days. I've run out of space more than once on my 16 GB card. If you plan on getting plenty of games via PSN (which is a much better alternative in Norway considering the local stores can't even compete with the PSN prices here) you'll want all the space you can get. Anything less than 16 GB should be avoided, in any case.

A quick check of some downloaded games on my Vita shows that they take this amount of space: (note that they'll take far less space if run from a physical card)

  • Dungeon Hunter: Alliance - 1053 MB
  • Super Stardust Delta - 232 MB
  • Everybody's Gold (Hot Shots Golf in the US) - 1519 MB
  • Motorstorm RC - 758 MB
  • LittleBigPlanet Vita - 1771 MB
  • Zen Pinball (with plenty of tables) - 1095 MB
  • Assassin's Creed 3: Liberation - 2984 MB
  • Gravity Rush - 1459 MB
  • Chronovolt - 290 MB
  • Tales from Space: Mutant Blobs Attack!!! - 275 MB

Then there's the PSP games, which can vary in size almost as much. A few examples:
  • Half-Minute Hero - 101 MB
  • LocoRoco 2 - 1585 MB
  • Grand Theft Auto: Chinatown Wars - 527 MB
  • flOw - 90 MB
  • Echochrome Micro - 52 MB

I went with the 16 GB, which was around $47 at Amazon.  I plan to stick mostly to buying physical media, but I figured I'd need the space for PS+ games and the occasional digital game deal.

Most games seem to max out at 1500mb at most. I suppose they means I should be able to keep 10 games on with a 16GB card. It's enough that I can have a variety of games and don't need to reload too often. 16GB seems like a decent compromise between space and value.
