New release Wednesday is upon us:

http://toucharcade.com/2011/05/11/tonights-releases/

Army of Darkness looks like a lot of fun for fans of the movie - plus it's only $0.99!

On the fence for Starfront: Collision (Starcraft clone).  Anyone know anything about Bohnanza card game?

The actual card game is very fun, but I don't really see how it would translate to the mobile format.

Yup, busted!    nod

It took me "longer than a seven year old" to learn the game, but once I got rolling, I became a convert.  I guess I've never played any "match 3" games before, so it was a nice surprise.  Now, if only I could stop seeing skulls, swords, coins, and potions behind my eyelids at night...   icon_eek

Army of Darkness is very addicting, especially for a $1 game!

It's a side-scrolling type of defense game where you have to protect the book and the upgrades are countless. Very easy to play, Bruce shoots automatically you just move him forward or backwards and then you get extra spells and special attacks you can use, as well as AI-controlled allies to help defend the castle. Everything is upgradable, from Bruce himself to your AI allies to the castle, spells, upgrading the castle to add archers and catapults to the wall, unlocking heroes to fight along side you.. all kinds of allies, from simple peasants to swordsmen to heavy swords and spearmen, archers, horsemen, and the heroes.

I think I probably just spent about 40 minutes playing to level 26 before my touch finally said the battery was running low, so had to take a break!

Normally I stick to only buying games that have online multiplayer, but having been a big fan of army of darkness and it only costing $1, why not?
Definitely one of the better iOS games out there.. and if you're not careful, you might find yourself spending $5-$10 on extra coins to use in the game for upgrades.. not that I'd do that, or anything.

So, is anyone playing Order & Chaos?  I'm typically not a big MMO guy on PC, but have to admit that this one looks pretty interesting.  Love to hear some thoughts on it.

Finally an update on Final Fantasy Tactics iphone/ipad on their facebook page-

Quote
Hello. I'm Shiina, the assistant producer of
"FINAL FANTASY TACTICS: The War of the Lions" for iPhone.

It's so long, soooo loooong since we announced this title at E3 2010.
I've read all the comments here (some of them hurts my mind >_<) and felt really sorry for the lack of information.
The schedule for the iPhone titles can be fluid and FFT is not a completely new title.
That's why we didn't post many topics.

But now the development reaches the final step and we can see the actual schedule.
Thus, YES, finally I can tell you when it will be released.

FFT: WoL will be on sale somewhere between late June - mid July.
We have announced "It's coming Spring 2011" last year
so we're now working pretty hard for the release in June because July is not spring anymore.
(BTW: Japan has a rainy season called Tsuyu in June. And after that, we feel summer is coming.)

We're also making the iPad version which supports 1024x768px HD resolutions.
Now a skillful pixcel artist re-draws the face graphics for example.

Because of the HD support, the iPad version could be released slightly behind the iPhone ver.

I'm also an assistant producer of CHAOS RINGS OMEGA which's coming this month.
After its release, I think I can post the FFT topics more often and keep you updated.

I kind of wanted to see it just as something that would really show off what the platform can do. Honestly, it's better looking than any 360 or PS3 game I've seen, which is pretty remarkable, even with the limited scope. But yeah, I can certainly see why you'd feel that way. I don't see where it's all that different from something like Punch-Out and many people seem to like that series.

IB is very repetitive, but I had fun with it for a few hours.  It's an awfully neat tech demo regardless.

Just an FYI for anyone interested in Chaos Rings Omega.  This is not considered a sequel (they're actually working on CR2), and is basically just an expansion pack with a new story.  The majority of the environments, characters, and monsters are exactly the same as the first game.

Really?  I didn't see anything about that.  I thought it was supposed to be a prequel set 10000 years prior to the first game?

Yep, that's the "new story" part.  smile  Other than that, there really isn't anything new.

Ahhhh, interesting.  Here's some more detail.  I probably should have waited, but oh well.  I do like that they are going to continue to add new content in the coming weeks, but still it's a bit over-priced relative to the content.

Hunters: Episode 1 is a very fun turn based tactical game.
Great iphone game!  Thanks for recommending it.  I never would have come across it if I wasn't reading through this thread after purchasing my iphone4.  I feel like I'm playing Incubation again.  I love how they let you customize your team and team members too, the developers get it.  Squad sized turn based combat, set in a sci-fi universe with rpg elements of leveling up, acquiring loot and new gear, and picking talents from different talent trees.  Awesome.

Now if they could add a story campaign to the already good individual missions, that would be even better.  It really does feel like a tribute to Incubation.

Just picked up Fantastic Knight, a new KRPG similar to Zenonia.  It's $2.99 and universal for both iPhone/iPad.  Graphics look really sharp, especially the artwork on the iPad.  Gameplay feels pretty similar to Zenonia, though admittedly I haven't played tons of either game to give a full review.

Oh good lord, i hate you for turning me onto this game.  I think I've sunk about 4 hours into it over the last few days.  The only downside is that once you get to around wave 40 to 45, the red dress witch shows up and she's hugely overpowered for most normal upgrades.  I think that's their way of getting you to purchase more gold from them to upgrade past what you could possibly have from normal play.

Still, I got more than my money's worth on this one.  Much more.

This one is iPad only, but:

http://toucharcade.com/link/http://i...437602797?mt=8

This is a little weird to describe, so bear with me, but it is a turn-based game where you try and destroy an enemy mainframe before he destroys you. Turns consist of engaging a slot-machine mechanism. The results of the spin determine what happens. There are 3 different symbols, and if you get more than one of the same, you get a better result.

For example, suppose you want to summon a robot to protect you. There are three kinds: a low damage tank, mid damage model, and a fragile blaster guy. You might start a battle wanting a tank to protect you. There are 3 dials on the slot machine and the one on the left spins slowly enough that you can usually get what you want. So you deliberately stop the slots on a tankbot, then get a droid and another tankbot. When the robots are summoned, you get the droid and an upgraded tankbot, because there were two tankbot symbols. If you get all three symbols the same, you get the best result, plus an extra spin.

To make matters more interesting, there are three dials you can choose to spin. The second type produces barriers, drains energy from the enemy, and can even steal enemy robots. The third type is all offense, with attacks that can deal high single target damage, lower area damage, or even temporarily disable enemies.

If al this weren't enough, there are also special powers you can use during a fight, like the ability to fire twice or an emergency heal. Plus you earn upgrades when you level that can improve all the different things in the game (my first one gave a chance for firewalls to nullify incoming attacks)

Did I mention the graphics are really slick and that this is free? It does have in app purchases, but they are of the optional variety.

Have a look at a short video from the developer: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RCjyw68e0T4

Missed the release, but Companions (for iPad only) is out:

http://www.topactiongameapps.com/companions-ipad-game-battles-of-epic-magnitude/616/
http://ipadgames.org/reviews/companions/

I haven't got too far but it seems to play like a cross between a party-based ARPG, Gauntlet and a TD/RTS(?) game like Battleheart in that you have 4 guys to command (essentially the Big 4 from Gauntlet with Valkyrie replaced by a Dwarf Engineer/Builder dude) through the dungeon.  You can pause to issue commands but most of the action is otherwise in real time.  I'm only doing the tutorial and thus far the controls seem a little off to me, and I wish I could zoom in a bit further in on the graphics, but otherwise I really like the core of the game.  It's relatively pricey ($4.99) so you might want to watch the gameplay videos to see if it's your cup of tea.

Anyone try Prose With Bros?  I'm "rittchard" as usual if you want to play.

It's incredibly silly but pretty funny.  Essentially it's a 1 on 1 challenge, you each get the same bunch of words and then you make a sentence/phrase out of them.  Once you've both made your phrase, it goes off to the horde to vote on which is better.  In the mean time, you can vote on other people's games, which can also be entertaining in its own way.  The voting is good for a few laughs if you have a few seconds to kill at a time.

Baseball Superstars II absolutely destroyed my weekend...I simply cannot stop playing it.  It's an arcade-style baseball game/RPG, and is one of the most addicting games I've played since Dungeon Raid.  And this is coming from someone who hates baseball.  I just wrapped up my 7th season (you play an 11-year career), and am trying to decide which of the 4 girls I've been courting gets the final nod.

My only frustration is not being able to figure out what the hell this game classifies as a "line drive".  You get opportunities during games for extra points if you can make a specific type of hit (i.e. bunt, home run, line drive, etc), and about 3/4 of the requests are for line drives.  I've made every kind of hit imaginable on these requests, but it never gives me the points for it.

To be fair, it's never required to touch that aspect of it.  I found it interesting enough to continue with, but you can completely ignore it if you want.  You lose out on a few unlockables by doing so, but it's not a deal-breaker.

Thx for the find on Deep Deep Dungeon!  First impressions are good/mixed.  I love a lot of things about the game, it's a simple rogue-like dungeon crawl with turn based combat similar to a JRPG, but there's a catch... to hit takes twitch/eye coordination/timing to hit within a bar.  There's a single spot on the bar if you hit you get a critical.  Different weapons have different setups, and different foes it seems the spot moves faster or slower.  I really like the idea of the skill based element, but it can also be a bit nauseating so that's a problem for me, especially when the thing is moving really really fast.

I grabbed Orions 2 and Deep Deep Dungeon this morning...will report back on both later.

I've played up through level 33, and it's been quite fun.  It gets really damn hard though...to the point where actually hitting an enemy is as much a matter of luck as skill.    Fun for a little while, but I'd be hard pressed to give it much of a recommendation.

I'm running into the same problem with Orions 2 as I ran into on the first game...information overload.  There are so many cards that do so many different things, and it's all rather intimidating.   CCG fans will probably love it, but I'm not sure I'm willing to put in the time and energy required to memorize how everything works.

War of Eustrath is a very well done SRPG (More fire emblem than final fantasy tactics) and with Anime style mechs (called Gears on the game)
