La-bibbida-bibba-dum! La-bibbida-bibba-do!

I'm predicting they have another hit on their hands.  seriously, watch the video.  this has pushed me over the edge into buying a Vita when it is released.

Quote
Tearaway is kind of like a buddy movie. It stars iota, a messenger from a paper dimension, whose envelope head contains an urgent message to deliver… to you! It’s a very special message, and one that’s unique for each and every player. In order to read yours, you’ll need to take up the role of co-star and, together with iota, journey through the vibrant papery landscape — two buddies going on an epic adventure.

You and iota will travel afar, taking on enemies and helping those in need. You’ll conquer adversity and discover magical papery surprises. But in Tearaway, you’re holding more than just a PS Vita in your hands — you’re holding the paper world itself!

Using the god-like powers inherent to someone who can hold an entire world in their giant hands, you can make your presence felt using a wide range of godly powers that take advantage of all the PS Vita’s bells and whistles — some subtle and some epic. You can shake things up or turn them upside down. A gentle breath from you is a gusty storm. You can even poke your fingers into the back of the PS Vita to tear through into the world and help iota complete this very special delivery.

Looks kinda interesting, but the last thing I want to be doing is yelling into my console in order to play a game.

Yay, more interesting games for the Vita!  smile  The video looked pretty cool, very unique at least, though I agree that yelling may not be my bag.

reviews are starting to come out:

Official GT review: 90 out of 100

Quote
The papercraft world of Tearaway is full of beautiful landscapes, charming characters, and creative gameplay, but it also seamlessly melds with the “real” world in unprecedented fashion. Upon completion, it will feel like your own story, different from anyone else’s. The conclusion is simple: no PlayStation Vita game collection is complete without this title.

3 out of 5 from Joystiq:

Quote
Tearaway is cheerful, clever, and colorful, but never quite attains the masterful blend of art and gameplay exhibited by developer Media Molecule's previous efforts, the LittleBigPlanet games. It's crammed full of wonderful ideas that can't quite compete with a control scheme that – apologies – looks good on paper but doesn't work well in practice. Tearaway has a big heart ... if only your fingers didn't keep getting in the way.

It currently has a Metascore of 87 with 46 reviews. That's about as high as non-Persona games can get on the Vita due to the so-called "Vita penalty". There are a bunch of reviewers out there who will always dock Vita games in reviews because they are constantly comparing them to games on the big consoles (while the 3DS gets away clean). For this reason it's typically a good idea for fans of the system to consider a Vita game to be roughly 10 points higher on the Metacritic scale than what it really says it is.

This is going on my Christmas list.

It's a testament to the Vita's power that reviewers can't help themselves from comparing it to full blown consoles.

Yeah, it's on my list as well.  I would just purchase it but between the two new consoles I kind of have a lot of games already.  smile

It looks like a great game, but why, out of 365 days in the year, did they choose the absolute worst day to release it?  Not only is one of the biggest handheld games of the year coming out that day (Zelda), you also have Mario for WiiU, and the XBox One and all its games.  It's even an odd Friday release like all the others.  Vita games have a hard enough time getting noticed, but this is just going to get buried.

This is very true.

It's also the last of the new games this year.  No one wants to release after Thanksgiving, so there's really nothing on the calendar until February at this point.

Maybe they were hoping to tie it into increased Vita sales piggybacking off of the PS4?  I don't know how inspired people are to get the Vita, though.  The second screen works great and all, but I don't see much promotion about it.  Does the average consumer even know it does this?

I haven't seen much advertising for it.  maybe it'll get a big push during the Spike VGA.. er.. VGXs.

Eh, if it does poorly on the Vita, they can always make a PS4 version and use the touchpad and camera from that. Media Molecule's work doesn't go to waste, ever.

Yay! Vita purchased! Great system with a ton of good games. Not sure why so many other think otherwise. Enjoy! I didn't grab tearaway yet since I just got a ps4 and a bunch of other stuff with it. Did realize that I have $15 bucks off of a GameStop purchase so this will be happening soon enough.

I have no idea what good games are out for the Vita.  If a stranger came up to me in a Best Buy and asked for a game purchase recommendation, I could give plenty advice for every system but the Vita; I don't now if I could even recommend a single game.

Admittedly, I haven't been in the market for a Vita until just now, but I haven't been in the market for a Wii U, either, and I've at least heard about some of the Wii U games thus far.  Sony's marketing and buzz around the Vita has been awful.

There's a few decent games (Dragon's Crown, Gravity Rush, Uncharted), but nothing I would consider a "must have".  I keep thinking there will be a good JRPG or three that hit the system (those were the saving grace of the PSP), but it seems to be a wasteland in that regard as well.   icon_frown

I'll probably just end up selling or trading mine eventually...just haven't ever gotten around to it.

That should change today with Ys : Memories of Celceta, which is supposed to be excellent.  I have it coming from Amazon today, so I'll post some impressions once I play it.  There are also some others in the works, such as Conception 2, Demon Gaze and Sorcery Saga

Thanks, looking forward to your impressions of the new Ys game.  I've tried a few of those, but they never really clicked for me.  Maybe this one will change that.

And sorry for the derail.  smile

Back on topic, this game flat out, hands down, rocks! MM knows how to make a FUN game. The artwork, audio design, and really everything so far about it is impressive. Not perfect, but what is?

I beat this over the weekend.  fun little game, not one I would put up at goty status, but pretty good over all.

now, the trophies for beating the jumping level and the rolling level at the end of the game, well those two levels can go to hell.  the platforming is too imprecise and the camera views are a bigger obstacle than the levels themselves.  I'm only going to give it a few more tries and to complete the platinum then it's going on the trade list.
