coming August 31st is a new Final Fantasy game that will be episodic.  it'll have the FF old school look, but I think the pricing may be a bit high:

Quote
Square-Enix are charging £19.99 or $28.99 for the full game, although the prologue chapter is free and the first four chapters vary in price, with chapter one being the cheapest at £1.99 or $2.99.

I figure I'll check out the prologue at the very least, but not spend any money on it until I figure out which OS my next phone is going to have.

Nearly thirty bucks for that. Is Squenix nuts? iDevice/Android games are supposed to be cheap. Yes, I realize that they overcharge for everything they put up onto the iStore, and frankly I don't understand why people buy it, either.

I'll check this out if it is indeed being released on Android.  Square Enix's project page lists Android and iOS, but the official website lists only iOS.  The European SE blog says it's a worldwide release for both, so hopefully that's accurate.

I'm maybe the biggest unabashed Squeenix whore on the planet, and will happily shovel money their way with nearly every release.  If I'm skipping it due to the $30 price tag, I can only imagine what the reaction from non-hardcore fans will be.

$30 is certainly high, but that's what I'd pay for a quality full-length game of this type on the DS or PSP.  It remains to be seen whether FFD is a good game, but if it is, it's worth the price to me.

The game has finally been released for Android on the Google Play store.  They ditched the episodic model and are just selling the whole thing for $20.

I haven't played it yet myself, but pretty much every impression I've read has been positive.

Same here.  I've seen it popping up on most of the "Best of 2012" lists.
