Squeenix has been busy on the iOS front lately.  First was FF Brave Exvius (which I think is fantastic) and now Mobius Final Fantasy is coming out this morning.  It's still a social RPG with all the attendant "stuff" (timers, multiple currencies, gatcha draws, etc.), but it looks like this one is more of a card-based combat system.  There is an job system in place, which is encouraging, and the production values look to be absolutely through the roof.  It unlocks in a couple hours...I'll be back with impressions later.  In the meantime, here's the announcement trailer.

EDIT
First impressions:
- Absolutely beautiful. Production values are off the chart here.  Might be the prettiest game I've seen on iOS.
- Music is fantastic
- Voice actors all sound bored
- After running through what felt like 83 tutorials, I still have no idea what the hell I'm doing. Looking forward to figuring it all out though.
- Combat is pretty fun, especially if you actually play it instead of just doing "Auto".  Feels very easy, but I'm sure that'll ramp up.
- Story is squarely in the "we'll see" camp. Seems awfully generic.
- Very similar to Square's other social RPG's (Record Keeper, KH Unchained, Brave Exvius). If you didn't like those, you won't like this. People expecting a full-fledged console style JRPG will be sorely disappointed.

Which seems to have a better story, Exvius or Möbius?

Also, are either of them reasonably difficult? Or is combat easy to the point where all those various mechanics and systems are meaningless?

Both are pretty cliche FF stuff, TBH.  However, if you're interested in either game for a deep, compelling story, I'd highly recommend you look elsewhere...you'll be sorely disappointed in both.  The iOS port of FFIX is really good!  smile

They both start out really easy, but the further you get, the more difficult they become.  I'm at the Exvius "endgame" and while regular mobs are usually simple, boss battles can get stupid hard.  I'm not far enough into Mobius to make a determination there yet.

I've spent a couple hours with Mobius, with the majority of my time spent fiddling with my card and combat layouts.  It's insanely addicting, even if I still don't quite understand how everything works yet.  There's SO many systems, currencies, and upgrade paths that it can get a bit overwhelming...especially if you haven't played one of these types of games before (FF Record Keeper, Kingdom Hearts Unchained, or FF Brave Exvius)

While the game is beautiful and quite fun, it skews much too far into "pay to play" territory.  The main currency is Magicite, which is required to do anything except drawing basic ability cards.  It accrues at the rate of around 150/day, or (of course) you can buy it with real $$.  Anything you do - drawing new cards, gaining new abilities, fusing cards to become more powerful, etc. - requires at least 1,000 Magicite.  Drawing more powerful abilities requires anywhere from 2,000 to 3,500.  I'm sure you can start to see the problem here.  You either wait weeks futzing around at lower levels while you accrue enough to get a decent ability or job (which is still a random draw with no guarantee of getting what you want), or you can pay $$ to accelerate the process.  I haven't gotten far enough in to know yet, but if it's like Squares other mobile games, you outpace the basic starter stuff pretty quickly and are required to have the more powerful draws in order to progress.  When my options are to either pay or log in once a day while resources accumulate at a trickle. I'm going to lose interest pretty quickly.

It's too bad they went this route, as the previous title (Brave Exvius) seemed to strike that balance between pay and F2P perfectly.

So I was this close to deleting this game, and figured I'd check out a couple videos and see if they explained anything. After watching some YouTube combat and fusion tutorials, I found out I was way off on my assumptions about how things worked.  After getting clarity and understanding the systems, I have done a complete 180 and am completely hooked on Möbius.  Once you get the hang of summoning, gaining skill seeds, card fusion, and how to build a deck, the game really starts to shine.

It's  a shame the game does such a poor job of explaining things, as I'm guessing there's lots of folks in my same boat who just gave up out of sheer confusion.  My main misconception is what I mentioned above about Magicite.  I thought it required both summon tickets (a consumable item) AND 2,000 to 4,000 Magicte.  Turns out, it's either or.  I had a bunch of the tickets, but never enough Magicite, so I thought I was stuck...not so.

So I've gone from a big thumbs down to a big thumbs up, with the caveat that you take the time to watch some tutorials before jumping in.
