[iOS] Heroes Rise

If you told me I'd be sucked in by an all text "choose you own adventure" type of game in 2012, I'd probably laugh my socks off.  But for the hours I played/read it, Heroes Rise was one of the most engrossing superhero games I've played in a long time.  There is absolutely nothing about it that is stellar from a tech standpoint, except that it provides a consistently interesting narrative and choices that make you feel like they matter.  It's as if you were "living" through the Spider Man origin story, making choices down to what power to use in a given situation.  This is something that games like CoH, DC and Champs all seem to have lost in translation.  In spite of all the flashy choices and graphics and combat in those games, there was rarely a compelling story that made you feel special and just sucked you in as an individual.  Too many side quests and fedex, etc, meaningless combat, etc etc - that's just not what being a superhero is about.  Discovering your powers, choosing how to use them wisely and when to use them, developing relationships (both good and bad), saving lives, making sacrifices - there's so much more to it.  In spite of being a bit short, I really enjoyed Heroes Rise and would love to see them create a sequel.

Downloaded one of their other games yesterday and tried it out (Choice of Broadsides) and it was kinda neat. Several of their games are free, supported by ads.

A hero has risen!

It's been an ordeal, but everything ended up ok. Puttering along with what, 3 hours of sleep in 48 hours? Everyone's healthy though, so yay.

To be ever so slightly on topic, the app has been fun but it's a little inconsistent in its pacing. You'll be on a roll with quick, fun decisions, and then WALL OF TEXT. BACKSTORY TIME, STAY A WHILE AND LISTEN.
