Somehow, Ascension doesn't have its own thread. Or didn't.
Anyway, I figured it was a good time to start because the expansion Storm of Souls has been submitted to the app store and should appear in the next week or so.

Any word on whether they will add retina as well? I can play it, but it sure is ugly.

Oh that's not because of the resolution: the card art is that ugly no matter how crisp you make it. Love the game, though, and I'm thrilled the expansion is coming so soon. At PAX East I actually tried joining an Ascension tournament that was being run, but I didn't realize it would be nothing but 4-player matches and I really prefer the 2-player setup. Regardless, it was kind of a trip playing the physical version after logging so many hours into the iPhone one.

I've been playing quite a bit of Ascension lately. Still not very good at it, but I find it to be pretty fun.

Looks like Storm of Souls will be an in-app purchase for $3.99 and there will also be a promo pack for $0.99 - as posted here

Update is out and it supports retina! That means you can actually read the cards pretty clearly without having struggle to much (or zoom into them).

it tells you when you click on it, but it's 1 hero from each faction and 2 monsters. I believe these were all promos in 'real life' that were given away at events and the like.

If you click on Details it will show you. I can't remember specifically, but it was basically a few cards that are ones they give out at trade shows. I have the physical ones and figured I'd like the digital version as well, so I sprung for it.

When he comes up, his little rat army covers all the cards in the center row, and you have to take them out (or just him) to get at the cards underneath. I've played a few Storm of Souls games with him enabled and have yet to see him. Hell, I have yet to see one of the cards that affect the game, whatever those are called. I'm starting to suspect I'm doing something wrong.

I did, though I don't understand why all of the original cards are unavailable - I get that they replaced the original 'always available' cards with much better art. Did they do this with others, too?

Storm of Souls is meant to be the start of a new set and the original Ascension and Return of the Fallen are meant to be their own set. You can technically mix all the cards together (if you own the physical games), but it really starts to water down the set, so they are basically releasing them as pairs. There is also a story here, which you get if you buy the physical game and they pair it off that way from a story perspective as well.

the first set and this latest set are 'base sets' the second one was an expansion. I think they are just limiting us to one base set

Don't feel bad Bullwinkle, my son and I played our first game with the physical SoS set and didn't see a fate card until the very end. But that's the reason you wouldn't want to add in the old set too, because frequency of those coming up would be even worse.
