Fantastic!  I hope they add some new features instead of just doing a straight port, but this game is just perfect for tablet control.

I think they said it would include the upcoming expansion and price will be $10.

My November self thanks you for the information that would've been really new and interesting back then.  icon_wink icon_razz

This is a terrible idea. I can throw my iPad WAY further than I can throw my computer.

Having never played this on the pc I am thoroughly enjoying this. I suck at it though. I can't even get far on easy.

I played a bunch of this on a flight today and I'm really impressed with the conversion to iPad.  Some parts of the UI feel improved, such as the way you do power management and how you get more info on your equipped systems.  Other parts are handled really well considering the reduced screen real estate.  Focusing on one ship or the other seems pretty easy and intuitive.

Weapon management seems a little funky at first, but I'm getting used to it.

Are you exploring the early sectors a bunch before going to a new one, or are you making a bee-line for the sector exit?  For the most part, you want to leave a sector just before the enemy fleet overtakes it, so that you've had as many encounters as possible.

My first time through I bee-lined for the sector exit and got far enough to unlock an engi ship. Then I saw the in-game tip to explore each sector thoroughly, but I haven't been doing a fantastic job doing that either. I just unlocked a third ship, so I'll try that out on my lunch break.

You can't be doing that bad if you just unlocked the 3rd ship. I have only unlocked one ship, and I consistently make it sector 5 in the game assuming a decent start (I know not great, but it makes for a decent length game).
