This still doesn't exist here, either!

Anyway, reviews have started to hit, and they are outstanding.

Nearly 87% on GameRankings.

Can't wait for Sunday!

Not sure separating the handhelds from consoles was such a good idea; this seems to be where threads go to die.  Maybe it should have been Apps and Analog?

Anyways, the Giant Bomb quick look sold me completely on this one.  The level of interactivity in the levels actually surprised me.  This is probably going to be the system seller that finally gets a lot of people to pick up the 3DS.

Wow. Gamespot seems to be the only low review so far, and low it is. Other than one persons opinion, this looks awesome!

okay i just found out this is a 3DS game,i really enjoyed the first on Gamecube, but was expecting this to be a title on the Wii U in fact this was one of the few games i wanted that would make me think about getting a Wii U

EDIT:

CVG Review gives it a 9.2

UPPERS

Downloaded the game last night and played for about 2 hours then played about an hour today and I really like the game, it's just good fun.
The presentation of the game is excellent and there are so many small touches that makes the game a joy to play.  The graphics are really good, I'm playing with 3D about 50% and there are some jaggies when you use 3D so I'm a little torn on using 3D all the time.  I'm playing on a 3DSXL and even then the sweet spot is still very small. Other than that I don't have any complaints with the game.

The mechanics of catching ghosts is really fun to use and the rooms are so dense you can spend a lot of time just interacting with stuff.  There are a ton of collectibles to find so a 100% playthrough could take some time.  The game has a great sense of humor and Luigi's spoken dialog is spot on.  The best part is when he hums along to the background music, it's a small thing but I crack a smile each time that it happens.

Uh oh, this plus the target sale plus the free game offer is putting me close to the edge of getting a 3ds.

We didn't get our review copy until today (????) but I've been tooling around with it since Sunday, and man... it's pretty damn good. The only real gripe I have is its regimented mission structure. I get that it's a portable game, but it would have been nice if they let you just explore at your leisure, rather than forcing you back to base every 20 minutes or so.

Expect our full review this weekend (time permitting), though I'm sure you're all enjoying it thus far. biggrin

I picked this up during the $30 sale.  Only made it through one mission but my first impressions are very good!  My only real complaint isnt the games fault so much as the system and that is the number of jaggies on characters and the environment is a bit distracting.  Zelda did something where turning off the 3D applied a sort of anti-aliasing that I wish they had done here.

That is a very minor complaint though; if you own a 3DS go buy this now!

Wow.

I've been increasingly reluctant to browse Giant Bomb in recent months, so I wasn't aware of that video.  Thank you for bringing it to my attention.

Does anyone want to try Screamscraper?  My friend code is in the thread on the multiplayer board.

I'm willing to give it a try.  My only experience with multiplayer on the 3DS was a few rounds of Mario Kart against random people though...

So does this game only save back with the Professor? Or am I missing something?  icon_confused

Unfortunately, that is correct.  Most missions can be completed in about 15 minutes so I haven't run into any problems so far but that is a definite weakness of the game.

What is the benefit to getting 3 stars on a mission? Is that how you get the missing gems? I went back and got all the Boos in the first house, but the payoff wasn't that great, and I don't think I'd have the patience to 3-star all the levels (which at this point I am assuming requires you to finish in under 10 minutes maybe?)

I don't think there really is a benefit.  If you collect all the gems you get a Luigi statue.  Not worth the trouble in my opinion.

Of course but there have been a couple of times when I've wanted to do something else, which meant either putting it off until I could save and exit properly or just letting the new program kill it. No worries, was just curious.

Just something that displays in the lab.  Video spoiler.

Also, apparently if you find all the Boos you get a bonus mission.

Im about half way through now and still having a blast.  This has really taken me by surprise and is now probably my favorite game on the system.

I can also confirm that getting all the Boo ghost in one game hub will unlock an extra mission in that area.

Yeah, I got all the boos in the first area, but the bonus stage was basically a time attack so it didn't really seem worth it.

Yep, level in the 2nd area is also a time attack.  I found all the Boos through normal exploration but I agree, I wouldn't go out of my way for it.

I'm sure some people will feel the need to 3-star all levels or collect all Boos, but neither the process of getting there or the payoff was made very desirable.

Contrast this with something like Mario Galaxy - the payoff of getting 120 stars is not that great (play through the game as Luigi, who jumps a little differently), but the process of getting there is playing more great SMG levels (except maybe Luigi's Purple Coins *Fist Shaking*)

Finished this today.  Incredibly fun from beginning to end.

My only complaints I have are very minor.  I found a couple of the bosses (mostly the last one) annoying and the game would have benefited from antialiasing.  Also, Pink Sneaker ghost are a pain in the ass.

Highly recommended.  One of, if not the best game on the 3DS.

I'm already annoyed as hell by the first boss.  None the less, loving the game despite that.
