Atlus has announced that they are bringing Shin Megami Tensei Devil Summoner : Soul Hackers, a 3DS remake of a Sega Saturn game, to the US in spring 2013.  Unlike the PS2 Devil Summoner action-RPGs, this game looks more like a Strange Journey-style first person dungeon crawl.

A buddy of mine worked for 1UP and moved over to IGN.  He has a blog up with some screenshots.

Anyone buy this yet? I'm trying to find a boxed copy, but wasn't successful today in walking distance. I wanted the boxed version so I could loan it to a friend afterwards.

After playing through Persona 3 and 4G, I'm still in the mood for a long form RPG. I also tried a bit of Persona 2, which had the whole demon negotiation stuff.

A friend of mine is also encouraging me to get into the precursor series and I figured this is as good a place as any to start. And, kinda preparing myself for SMT4.

Amazon delivered yesterday. I've only had 2 hours so far but the game is fun. It is also very retro and shows it's age. The 3D isn't very deep but the gameplay sure is. Looking forward to more of the game.

FYI on the soundtrack in the boxed copy. Only six songs but they are pretty rock'n. Nice commentaries on the back of the sleeve about the genesis of each one, too.  thumbsup

Okay so, I'm probably giving up on this one. It's just not hooking me the way I thought it would.

Not only is it showing its age, it has some bad design decisions beyond that.

Things like combat, which everything happens way too quickly, almost all at once, even on the slowest setting. I don't mind it where you basically queue everything up and then everyone does their stuff like older RPGs, but I need some time to process stuff, especially for things like demon loyalty.

Lack of on screen monsters, aka random attacks, is really annoying. Overt reliance on grinding and really retreading areas for demons, that sort of thing.

Then there's the characters, which I'm having trouble connecting to, and it's just so odd not seeing them react to the fact that they just fought demons. Tongue
