I just paid off my Dream Suite thingy yesterday, so I suppose I need to log in and at least figure it out.  smile

Another pro tip:   if you let her choose for you, it won't work.    Mine has never worked when I ask her to choose for me.     Do a search or enter an address and you are golden.

I have had it work once or twice when I first got the Dream Suite, but I have the same issue, where it says you are having Internet trouble.  Like you, I always just do a search now.

On another note, not sure why I never see a tarantula or scorpion when I play at night.  I'm missing 12 bugs and two of them are those two.

I saw a scorpion once, but it stung me and I woke up back at my house.  frown  I also caught a tarantuala once just by chance.  I think both were during the day.

Gratz!

So I got another Spotpass house (from Nintendo) last night.    Krys or Kyrs or something.    You guys should have gotten it too.    How does Nintendo do this?   Do they create a town and persona and then distribute it or do they pick a random house from a fan and distribute it instead?

I also got the silver slingshot shortly afterwards. Not too useful, considering I already have all but one or two pieces of the balloon furniture series, including the paper/flooring, and the balloon hat, but it's the thought that counts.

Yes; for instance, that he gold slingshot shoots 3 pellets at the same time (the silver, 2). The gold axe never breaks, it's easier to catch fish/bugs with the gold rod/net, the gold watering can waters more spaces.

Aah.  I have a silver axe but since I never use the axe to begin with it has been kind of useless to me so far.

The silver axe apparently leaves designs on stumps, but it is breakable.

Pro Tip:

There is only one real piece of art out of the 4 offered.  If you know about art and know the pieces, you can actually examine them and spot the fake ones because they are different than the real world piece.  For instance, there is a famous statue of a wolf suckling Romulus and Remus as kids.  The real one has them both, but the fake one only has one of them.  I like the challenge of trying to spot the real one out of them.

Is there a good (safe) resource for expanding your friends list?   I'd love to get more activity and trading (and seeing other ppl's places).

I found one online but it looked centered around City Folk and not New Leaf.

One of my townsfolk told me today that Victoria Raverna visited her in a dream the other day.

I'm assuming this was due to an actual dream town visit.    Very cool that it lets you know....

This is my first Animal Crossing game. Is there anything to do besides chores? My routine each time I play is to collect sea shells, fish, bugs, fruit, etc. and sell them, but why I'm trying to make money I'm not sure. A bigger house, perhaps, but the house is the last place I want to be when I'm playing the game.

Is there a slow buildup to more interesting gameplay or is it collect stuff/chat with townspeople ad nauseum?

Well, once you upgrade the Nook store 3 times, the president's daughter gets kidnapped, and you are the only one who can rescue her from a war-torn Hellhole.

Or this is it, pretty much, except for building up your town through public works.

Have you gotten access to the island yet?  There are minigames to play there, but what you described is mostly what the game has to offer.  The point of the game is to collect stuff and sell it in order to get money to spend on building and furnishing your house and improving the town.  If you're not enjoying collecting the bugs/fish/etc. and decorating your house and the town, you're probably not going to enjoy the game.

Yeah, once I got to the point where the routine felt more like a chore or obligation a switch flipped in my brain and I quit wanting to play at all.  frown

To enjoy this game, it is important to relax and not force yourself to do stuffs just to earn enough bells for the next upgrade or project. Just have fun do anything you feel like doing at the moment. The only "chore" that I'm doing daily is to go to the store and buy the fortune cookies. Other activities are optional. I only dig up stuffs if I walk nearby and notice them. I only water flowers when I want to. I also bring my 3DS everywhere I go so that I can just play for a few minutes then put it back to sleep mode.

The other way to play is to set a goal for yourself then try to do it.

Example of goals you can set for yourself:
1. Collect a full set of furnitures for your home.
2. Rearrange your fruit trees so that you have separate sections of each type of fruits instead of just plant fruit randomly.
3. To own all kind of fruit trees in your town.
4. Decorate your town with flowers.
5. Have animal residents which each is a different animal type (no two bears for example). Or you can do the opposite and have all your animal residents from the same animal type.

Other stuffs to do:

-- unlock QR code reader and start putting nice imported photos on your walls and paths in your town
-- Collect gold nuggets to get turned into gold furniture
-- Get your HHA score high enough to unlock gold house features
-- Collect cool stuff
-- turn your town into a theme.   There's a fairly famous town on the internet you can visit via Dream Suite that is very creepy and has a haunted type feel to it.

I caught a Mothman last night.

If I ever saw a bug that big in real life I would be more likely to use the shovel than the net on it.

I also have a complete Cabana set now.

So it's official. This game owns me and now my wife. I grabbed her a original 3ds for $139.00 at bestbuy and a copy of new leaf. She LOVED animal crossing on the original ds so this was a no brainer. Was gonna get a XL for her but, 1: I would have been envious of the larger screens and more importantly 2: $139.00! I will be literally playing this every single day for the next year or so now...

So wow. We played for 3 hrs before she got mad and looked at the clock and decided it was clearly to late for her to play any longer. That has never happened with her with a game that I can recall. This game is simply therapeutic. Almost zen like. nod
