I haven't really done anything yet but my city doors are open to visitors.  Just curious how visiting works right now.

I looked for your town, but I can't find it.      I have opened my doors for visitors and will leave it open while I go and eat dinner.

Lordnine, could it be that you haven't added me as a friend yet?    Or perhaps I just missed you online.

We should add each other as best friends so we can message each other in the game.  I did this with a friend of mine and it is pretty cool.  When he starts playing the game, it lets me know and we can send messages to each other that we've opened our gates.  I've checked off msduncan and motodd as Best Friends since those are the two that I've had some online interaction with.  You have to be in a town with the person, click on the people icon and click the heart next to their name.

I'm about to open up my town for awhile. I've added everyone in here, so far, so if you haven't added me to your list, that's all you have to do to come visit.

I haven't gotten far enough where I can open my town yet, but I'm loving this one so far. Tom Nook is still a horrible creature.

Be sure and post your friend code.     Then be sure to open your town gate when you are hanging out in your town so we can come join you.

MSDuncan is the only person I ever seem to catch online.  He has cooler stuff than I do.  icon_frown

To make up for this I built a dead-fall in front of his house and then stole his pears...  icon_smile

lol

It helps if people leave their 3DS going with the gates open (plugged into AC power) while they eat dinner, do other activities, etc.    It doesn't hurt the DS and it allows people time to come visit.    That has been my policy each evening.

But I echo Lordnine.    You people get on the ball and leave your gates open for an hour per night or something.    I love the adventure of going to another town to see what goodies that person has collected and displayed.   I also love checking their stores for items I need.

Are friend codes unique to a game still? This game is surprisingly cheap, so I was going to pick this up for me and my little sister.

State of Bama report:

I'm on my third house expansion now.   This one is costly so it will take me some grinding.
I have my first public works project initiated.   A bridge shortcut to my house.
There is some construction going on in town -- don't know what it is though.
3 animals have moved into town so far.
Still haven't caught a shark, but I caught what looked like a shark but turned out being a big fish. (had the fin)
I currently own a fishing rod, shovel, bug net, and wet suit.     No signs of an axe or watering can
today I have a fortune teller parked in my town square.   going to investigate.
I unlocked more mini games on the Island.
The Bug Off is tomorrow!

I have the following items:
--Master Sword from Zelda
--Pikimin hat
--Pikmin planter
--robo dresser and robo clock
--Easter Island head
--Apple TV
--a Mario star (not the actual name but you get what I mean)
--Blue Falcon.   Some kind of space ship

So, as somebody who has never played an Animal Crossing game but thinks they sound equal parts intriguing and OCD-inducing, is this one a good entry point?  Or should I just avoid it and not worry about all the things I'm missing on every specific day.  slywink

Paid off my house and so it sucks slightly less now!  I have a triceratops skull mounted on my wall.

I'm pretty sure I won the bug-off as well.

Visiting various towns, I'm curious how important others find the museum. I always donate the first of anything I collect out of the bugs, fish or fossils, but it seems others value the cash money. I just find it interesting how each person plays a little differently. BTW, I notice that some of y'all haven't figured out that in addition to the rock that spits out coins with each hit, this game has a rock that breaks into a crystal each day. Once, I got a gold one, and it was worth a pretty penny.

My museum is filling out nicely.  The Aquarium in particular has some pretty cool things in it like piranhas and squid.

The rock thing is news to me though, what do you hit them with?

Just your standard-issue shovel. Your character will give the shovel a jaunty little spin and the rock will crumble.
