Hey everyone, remember that time Republicans organized party-wide opposition to raising the debt ceiling, creating a completely unnecessary economic crisis just to get attention?  And then, when their pointless brinksmanship damaged the country's credit rating in exactly the way everyone was predicting, the entire Conservative movement suddenly flipped and tried to blame it on President Obama?

Maybe in his second term, Obama can do something like that.  Except, you know, make it a scandal.

I have a suggestion: When presenting a claim in a political thread, back it up with evidence. This means a reference of some kind, preferably as a link. The reference must not be vague. If your evidence is refuted with counter-evidence, present new evidence or abandon your claim as it has now been proven wrong. Presenting a claim without evidence gives everyone else the right to laugh at you. Presenting a claim without evidence, being presented with counter-evidence, and then taking the high road and pretending to be persecuted, gives everyone the right to both laugh at you and ridicule everything you say.

The thing is, I'm not seeing the Republican side presenting evidence in most discussions at this forum, and when they do the Democratic side almost always presents counter-evidence that isn't again countered. Yet the Republicans (which are in the minority here, a situation that by itself is bound to cause friction) often shout that they are being hunted or that there's a conspiracy or what have you. Shouldn't someone see the writing on the wall here?

By the way, I'm not saying that every Republican here falls into the category mentioned above, nor that every Democrat here is able to create sound arguments with evidence to back them up. I'm just speaking in general terms. While I don't agree with most Republican viewpoints (in Norway they are considered to be about as far as you can get to the right in the political spectrum without outright becoming extremist, particularly if we're talking Tea Party), there are several examples of Republicans here that I consider both rational and intelligent, as well as several examples of Democrats that I consider... well, I'll leave it at that.

It's just frustrating to see political arguments where one side presents arguments and the other shouts about persecution. It's unbalanced in all the wrong ways.
