Pubs in Yorkshire have been ordered to ban people from wearing flat caps or other hats so troublemakers can be more easily recognized. This whole CCTV issue just feels like the proverbial pot of water slowly being heated up until we're suddenly sitting in boiling water. Is there such a thing as private property where the owner has a say in what customers can and cannot do at his establishment? They start these policies in public places like an airport or post office and once we're comfortable with that intrusion its moved into banks and now bars. |

Nigel Oldster: "Well, I think I'll head on down to the pub tonight. This seems like a great day to start some fights and grope random women. What's this....? Bloody HELL! I can't wear me flat cap? Well, I'll just stay home and read me Bible then!"
Thanks to the no hat rule, Yorkshire pub patrons no longer need to worry about 75 year old, flat-cap-wearing troublemakers like Nigel Oldster getting all liquered up and raising hell.

This isn't a terribly new thing. I was traveling somewhere a few years ago and also was told this about hats. I have no recollection of WHERE that was, but I'm pretty sure it happened.

It's a weird situation, but stores here in the US have always been able to determine the dress code on their premises.
One store got on the news by forbidding kids who had their pants on so low their underwear showed for a good 3-6 inches.
Not saying it's right, but it's not that wrong either.
