... and he's lived a long, challenging and worthwhile life. Rest in Peace.

Only two replies? He obviously didn't make enough Fast and Furious movies! RIP Mandela. You will be missed.

Not many revolutionaries live to be nearly 100. It's not a profession with good benefits. Well played, Nelson.

That is kind of interesting. When the FF guy died, my Facebook had multiple mentions of it (I had never heard of him). Not one mention on my FB feed of Mandela tonight. Of course that probably says more about my FB "friends" than anything else.

He did more for peace and the world than most others I can think of, and with great personal risk added to it . It will be interesting to see what will happen in South Africa now, since he's been a very stabilizing factor in the region.

Rest in Peace, Mr. Mandela.

Paul Walker died suddenly and tragically in a car accident - Mr. Mandela has had several scares over the past year, and in a lot of ways it was expected and inevitable. I think the tone is also different - we celebrate Nelson's life and achievements - from incarceration to his ascent to power - he is very loved and there really isn't a whole lot of controversy.

My concerns are more to if his life was the lynchpin for peace - I hope his passing does not create an vacuum in which breeds hate, intolerance, and war.

I told him not to pass on that role.

I see why this in R&P now. On my FB feed there is a thread from a fundamentalist Christian friend of mine about how Mandela was a terrorist and that "Our Dear Leader" president is scum for praising him. Lots of likes and comments of agreement.

I would have such a hard time not reading anything else your FB friend posted through the prism of this person is a douche.

I am sure most of those actually have no idea what really happened back in the 70's in South Africa, nor care.

Unless they also feel our founding fathers were terrorists, they're most likely just bigoted asshats.  I personally would find it hard to be friends with people like that.

Putting this in R&P guaranteed the thread to be less active.  It has nothing to do with F&F and everything to do with location.    That being said one of the most disgusting things Ive seen else where is the way Mandela's death is being used as a political football.  After what he endured in life, how about respecting him enough to let him rest in peace?
