In a debate on November 22, Rick Santorum and Herman Cain voiced their support for the idea of the Transportation Security Administration profiling Muslims, who Santorum says are most likely to commit crimes. The idea that Muslims should be profiled is nothing new, and Muslims around the country are already subjected to "random" screenings before flying.

During the debate, Wolf Blitzer asked Santorum, "Just to be precise, is it ethnic profiling, religious profiling, who would be profiled?" Santorum responded, "The folks that are most likely to be committing these crimes. Obviously Muslims would be someone you'd look at, absolutely."

Ron Paul immediately disagreed, saying, "that's digging a hole for ourselves" and that "we're using too much carelessness with the use of words that we're at war." Most notably he reminded the audience that terrorism "is a tactic; it isn't a person, it isn't a people." Contrary to the spirit of other debates (where the death penalty was cheered and gay soldiers booed), Paul's response drew applause from the crowd.

Cain, however, stood with Santorum, saying that he supported "targeted identification." He skirted around specifying Muslims, but continued, "The terrorists have one objective that some people don't get, to kill all of us. We should use every means possible to kill them first or identify them first."

Anyone else catch the debate? I loved Ron Paul's "What if they look like Timothy McVeigh?" response.

I love that he called the Patriot Act "unpatriotic" too. He's the only one on that stage who really thinks the Government should be small.

They should, as should African Americans with their pants at their knees, wearing red or blue bandannas.

So should all white men who appear on the People's Court, and all doctors of famous people, and all catholic priests, and all college football/basketball coaches, and all Mexicans driving low-riders, and all 16 year old kids who advertise on Craig's List, and all white girls who text during a trip to the Governer's Mansion, and all people who use the the term "logic". We can add to the list as more crimes are committed. That would be the type of country I want to live in.
