I'm not against christianity. I wouldn't call myself an atheist exactly. I'm more agnostic (er, at least, the EverQuest definition of the term, haha). I used to go to church when I was younger, and I believed and whatnot. But no longer. Anyways, I'm interested in reading about the history of Christianity but from a non-christian's perspective. Or at least, an objective perspective. I want to learn about how all the little beliefs were established and what they're based on. I want to learn about the bible and why certain books are in it and others aren't. I want to know all the little dirty details. I've always been curious about this stuff, and I think it's time I learn.

Go to Amazon.com. Type in "history of christianity" under books. It's like magic! And they all have comments that are at least as good as you'll find here.

Do you consider Wiki objective?

Perfectly legit question. I too went through the exact same research many years back. I will see what sources I looked into and try and get back to you.

I enjoyed Diarmaid MacCulloch's book on the Reformation - though it is pretty long and dense.

Also, Bart Ehrman is a great writer and his books should suit your needs. I'll second Ehrman, good call.
