While I'm apparently no longer a youth, a lot of what's written here very much agrees with my opinion that the Republican party, as it stands, is a dinosaur that's royally screwed if they do not get their shit together.

And they really should.  The only thing worse than a two party system is a one party system.

The fundamentals of what the ( R ) team stands for goes against what most of the youth of today believe.  Observe:

Gay rights
Immigration reform
Corporate citizenship
Universal healthcare
Taxes for the wealthy

And none of that even touches on the usual point - abortion.  That party won't have to just change, they've also gotta fix the dumb.  (i.e. magical vaginas that repel rape sperm)

Mad Men had a great scene in this week's episode.  The backdrop of the entire show was the riots at the 1968 Democratic Convention in Chicago.  At a meeting with an ad man high up in the company they were courting, the executive initially chastised one of his henchman for bringing up politics in a business meeting...then launched into a tirade about how the Democrats were officially dead after the riots and that they would never recover from the events of that night.

I had to chuckle at Matthew Weiner's little dig at the cyclical nature of politics.
