On Monday, President Bush made a videotaped cameo to NBC’s “Deal or No Deal” game show, joking, “I’m thrilled to be anywhere with high ratings these days.” Ironically, the New York Post reports that Bush’s appearance was a deal-breaker, “tying the show’s worst-ever Monday-night performance.” Monday’s show had approximately 10 million viewers, “down 27 percent from its season average.”

How is this how popular at all? I could barely watch it for 5 minutes before being bored out of my mind. There's no skill involved. It just seems to measure someone's greed level: take the offer or hope for more?

When I do watch it, I watch it for 2 reasons:

1)  Boobs

If we stumble across the show when channel surfing, I can't help but get caught up in the guilty pleasure of rooting for people's destruction when they get too greedy. 

I mean, come on, you're being offered $260,000.  It's yours, cash in hand, just press a button.  Jeopardy contestants need to have an encyclopedia's worth of trivia knowledge to have a chance at winning a tenth that amount.  But no, you're greedy and you have to try for more.  The person I was watching failed the next case, dropping the offer $120k, but then she had to spin some wheel of doom or something and her prize got halved and she ended up with $60k.

$200k lost because $260k wasn't good enough for you.  Horrible.

When you consider it is now going against the powerhouse Dancing with the Stars, it's not too surprising.  It was second in its time slot.  The week before the ratings for the Monday night show were a bit lower than this Monday's ratings.  Just because GWB was on the show doesn't mean that the rating were lower because of it.

I'm a subscriber to point 1 and 2.  I admit it.  I like watching people greed themselves into oblivion.

As has been mentioned, there's some nice eye candy on there. We don't watch it much now that actual shows are on again, but when there's a drought in programming, we've watched it.

There are some exceptionally good looking women on the show, though. And the banker does some downright rude things to some of the contestants. And there's really good looking women. And the banker gets off some good retorts at the contestants expense. And there's some really good looking women.

You got that right! There are MANY people who could have walked away with $150-$250K, but they "go one more" and it's all downhill from there.

i'm not so sure i wouldn't do the same thing though.  you go into the show with nothing to lose and a whole lot to gain.  if there's a chance at the million, why not go for the big win?  if it doesn't work out, you're no worse off than when you started.  everyone has a different outlook on the situation...

Exactly. For me, it's winning enough to pay off my mortgage. Not having a house payment would be wonderful! And it's only $160,000, so that's not too much when you see the money people get up to on a regular basis on that show.
