i personally prefer to see Off Topic remain full of goofy, fun posts and personal stories of car trouble, health issues and sexual dysfunction.

Can you recommend an HDTV for me?

52 inch Sharp Aquos.     Abes of Maine is where I found the best deal.   Amazing set!

i wish there was an upgrade option for samsung.  my 42" 720p set just seems ancient compared to some of these new systems.   icon_cry

I guess that a mostly US based forum is the wrong place to question these things though...to bad, really...
Question anything you want. But if you did so with some actual arguments other than, "nuh uh" it'd be cool. I'd enjoy a good debate here.

And holy crap, CSL, don't you have a spellchecker?

Do you know how drunk I was that night.

That's what she said....  ninja

Edit to add:   and my 1000th post here is a 'that's what she said'.   Tongue

My apologies if my post was offensive to anyone, was in a bad mood due to some rather unpleasant headaches when I wrote what I wrote...

I concede that US has done some remarkable things, or at least been in the forefront from many things, and yes, the democrazy I referred to was from ancient times...

Anyways - grats on the document, and the belief in the greatness of your country - I just think there's more to it than "we're great, you'r not" which was unfortunately how I read the original post. And that was what got me a bit...offensive.

Anyways, I Have beer, and is mostly naked now..except for my wooden shoes that is... does that excuse me?

Outside of hardcore porn, is there any art form as static as a Fourth of July fireworks display? Once you’ve seen one, you’ve seen them all, yet year after year, like stoned zombies staring at screensavers, we tilt our heads to the sky and watch amateurs and professionals alike stage the pyrotechnical equivalents of gang bangs.

wow buddy! yea and a fresh spring leaf dripping with dew is exactly the same as every other stupid piece of plant matter, and a once youve seen one fresh coat of snow youve theyre all alike - boring!  damn if someone cant take pleasure in the simple things, like some glowing balls of light in the sky im sorry im sorry frown  is nothing that guy took joy in during his childhood precious anymore?

and as for the "revolutions of france and russia being better" - i dont think csl meant they were "better" - i think he meant they were true revolutions.  the us was pretty close but keep in mind the colonies had pretty much been doing their own thing for a while, then england sort of stepped back in and that ticked the colonies off.  after the dec and war, the colonies more or less went back to what they were doing before england got really heavy handed.  now france and russia, as so many people pointed out, were ridiculously bloody messes, but they were TRUE revolutions in that the old structure was (often quite literally!) torn down and replaced with something utterly new.  it wasnt always better, it certainly wasnt beautiful, but they were much better examples of the definition of revolution.  us was, like someone said (csl maybe) an elite replacement and the gaining of sovereignty.  if anything the civil war was a bit closer to revolution (at least in the south) though not quite - and it would have been MUCH more so if reconstruction had run its full course

now go out an enjoy some fireworks - cause if you cant enjoy some simplicity, editor of some paper - i say YOURE a zombie - i wizz bang techno zombie damnit!

This man speaks the truth.  SEC football is actually more important than religion, though.

TO further derail the thread...

I'm just going to say this in regards to patriotism.
Anyone that thinks their country is the best probably needs to rethink things, especially if they voted for W 2x. In fact, if you voted for W 2x, I hope your reasoning was sound - because I'm not chatting with the 1% of 1% of US earners on these boards... If I am, I am sorry for disrespecting you and I will cut your lawn for $$!!!!

I think America is the best place for "me" - but I've been to more than just the North American continent in my lifetime and have been fortunate enough to have gone to other places on the planet. I just think saying "US PWNZ" is ignorant and you probably need to travel more. IF it's the best place for you? great. If it ain't - bitch, like me. But saying it's the greatest nation ever without being to Europe, Asia, South America or Africa - well dang, how the hell do you know it rocks? You've never been anywhere.

But as far as my nation being what's best for me, the US ranks a few down right now versus my other international experience (and I spent a long time in the Soviet Union prior collapse amongst several other nations - I was very fortunate to see the world when I had money/youth). It's just - I'm a citizen of the US right now and other than being in Nevada, France or Central America, I have no real forum to earn a living with what I do right now.

However, for US Rah Rah duders, good for you - but consider:
Any moron that voted for Bush deserves a few things done to them - especially if they voted for his second term. Here is what you got... And it makes "4m3r1c4 4w3s0m3zzzzz!!!!"
1- Give up your 'freedom' as Bush's administration has made YOU do many times (even worse, Obama was in favor of giving up immunity to telecoms for giving up your privacy to the current administration - makes me sick)
2- go to Iraq and fight (so my family does not have to die there) Oh you didn't? You're a real patriot!!!! GG voting for Bush on Iraq, coward scum.
3- Watch our economy tumble as corporate America gives working class people IN America's jobs to other nations (You may yell at Clinton for this btw, the 2nd worst economic President in my lifetime)
4- Pay 3x+/gallon of gas in our 'robust economy where all boats rise' as many Republicans have had the nerve to say.
5- Observe issues of Religion/Political Party take over the REAL issues that face us - i.e. Gays, gay rights, abortion, your color (Rev. Wright/Obama), your gender (Hil-dog), your patriotism ("You're either with us, or you're with the terrorists" - GWB). Or suspending Habeus Corpes heh... Or your ability to server as a judge (funny how Republicans bitch about the judicial system now and the abuse? Damn - one branch of government out of control?? CRAZY!!!!)

I'm proud to be American, even if I live with people that are so blind to their stupidity, they don't realize it - as we spend more on bombs than on people, and we have a crony-system of education. The US has a belt of states that think Jesus and/or God makes the laws - and we break those laws, but we can be forgiven - so jail or death is out of the question as long as we repent!!!  We have national leaders say "we're not ready for a black man to be President". Ya! GOGO AMERICA!!!

Blind patriotism is the worst there is.... To be honest, it's the most UN American thing there is - and it makes me sick - blind patriotism mirrors that of facist and communist nations - as it's required. To be American, in the mold this country was formed, is to question. When you stop questioning, you FAIL as an American. If I'm mad at things and question it. I don't think you can be a bigger Patriot than that.
I love America because I can believe that my nation is filled with brainwashed fools - including me - that believe the system is there to HELP them move forward in life and aspire to be better in one's community to help it grow. I won't stop believing in my community even though one party only cares about the 1% of 1% that don't give a rats ass who servers them coffee, washes their car, cleans their windows or keeps them safe while they sleep.
That's not capitalism, that's aristocracy, my friends. That's where we live right now.

I honor every person that died for me to have the words I do - no matter how inflamatory or stupid or ridiculous. Although, mostly ridiculous. It's sad in this day/age when you feel like a crazy person because you believe in the framework of the constitution. I feel crazy like that - and dammit - I'm glad I can. I honor Americans that fought/died for us all to be idiots - that, to me, is what the 4th is all about.

*edit last para and bad english*

It really is sad, the culture of insults on this particular forum. When you are able to make a post about American patriotism without a bunch of random insults, I would enjoy reading and perhaps discussing it. Until then, consider that wisdom is the realization of how little you know, when you judge others so harshly.

To be fair to McBa1n...   I know he knows that I voted for Bush twice.    I don't think he *really* wants things done to me.   I *think* he's just making a point, though I could be wrong.

And I do hope he realizes that over half the voters in this country voted for Bush's reelection.

Our system is there to preserve freedom, provide a system of laws, and provide military protection from threats.     No where in our founder's writings or the goverment they crafted did they say the government was here to help people succeed.    The government is here to provide an environment where people are free to succeed through hard work and determination.

I think it's incredibly arrogant to assume that those that happen to be extremely rich are inhuman bastards that don't care about other human beings just because they have more money than you.   Stop with the jealousy and class warfare.
