They didn't even get far enough to recognize carbon dating as something to refute.  According to them we date sedimentary layers by the fossils, and date the fossils by the sedimentary layers.  Those wacky scientists!

My first encounter with all this was when a former co-worker started emailing me all this junk about how Carbon Dating is an evil conspiracy, etc etc.

Not too surprisingly, he also sent me a bunch of email about how on Y2K the machines were going to rise up and kill us all.

So a difference of 2000-6000 years matters? You got the point and were trying to be witty by pointing out a very small difference. You could have prevented yourself from looking like ass by just stating that creationists believe that they world is less than 10,000 years old.

I'd have some questions for him. Questions about things like mountain formation, and the time it takes light to travel from distant stars to us. I'd like to know how he arrived at the 10,000 year age, when virtually every legitimate scientist on earth says that the earth is around 4.5 billion years old. The only "defense" I've ever seen of a young earth is that "the bible says so", and that scientists are in an evil conspiracy to thwart God's truth.

I guess it's a moot point now, as he doesn't seem to be answering.

Did I say there was?  I only said that, from their vantage point, there are scientific explanations for these things, and those technical explanations are available at creationist sites online.  Whether or not you agree with them is beside the point.

Yeah, Christian beliefs are off limits and beyond reproach, I get it. To even ask questions seems to be taboo, at least it was at OO, which caused me to rename that forum "Politics and Politics" since even questioning Christianity was considered offensive.

Wow, that was interesting to watch. That guy went out there and dug for the truth, and found out that Discovery Institutes's list was essentially one big lie. The lengths they were willing to go to try and led credible support to their side, would be comical if it weren't so heinous.
