Oh boyI think I felt my IQ dropping watching that. Remember this is the same people who killed people for saying the sun did not orbit the Earth.

Yeah, but the ones running the museum are the same ones who used to feed the Creationists to the lions, so they're even.

Actually, they believe that...
1) the universe is about 4,000 years old. 2) dinosaurs and people lived at the same time. 3) that carbon dating is a myth created to... um... accomplish something... sinister... yeah.

They didn't even get far enough to recognize carbon dating as something to refute. According to them we date sedimentary layers by the fossils, and date the fossils by the sedimentary layers. Those wacky scientists!

My first encounter with all this was when a former co-worker started emailing me all this junk about how Carbon Dating is an evil conspiracy, etc etc. Not too surprisingly, he also sent me a bunch of email about how on Y2K the machines were going to rise up and kill us all.

So a difference of 2000-6000 years matters? You got the point and were trying to be witty by pointing out a very small difference. You could have prevented yourself from looking like ass by just stating that creationists believe that they world is less than 10,000 years old. But whatever the case, why would anyone ignore facts and believe that?

He's not the one looking like an ass. The Earth is approximately 4,500,000,000 years old. If someone is saying the Earth is only 6,000 years old, that means they're off by something like x750,000? In the grand scheme of things, whether he says 4,000, 6,000 or 10,000, it really doesn't make any difference, does it?

I'd say that makes a difference. And the point is simply that people that don't know what they're ridiculing should shut up, instead of trying to score brownie points with the crowd by being part of the mob.

Are you a young earth creationist, Rowdy? you seem awfully defensive about the subject. I know you're a Christian, but I'm curious if you subscribe to the theory that the earth (not the universe) is between 6 and 10,000 years old.

You got me. I was appeasing the crowd because they couldn't ridicule the point on my behalf. And just so you know, I wasn't out to ridicule you or your point. Meh. Whatever. Loosen up your britches there, Rowdy. I think you're losing some circulation.

And if he is? I'd have some questions for him. Questions about things like mountain formation, and the time it takes light to travel from distant stars to us. I'd like to know how he arrived at the 10,000 year age, when virtually every legitimate scientist on earth says that the earth is around 4.5 billion years old. The only "defense" I've ever seen of a young earth is that "the bible says so", and that scientists are in an evil conspiracy to thwart God's truth. I guess it's a moot point now, as he doesn't seem to be answering.

"The fact that no human remains were found anywhere in the vicinity of the site of the skeleton serves as proof of the tyrannosaur's ferocity and huge appetite," Gill said. Gave me a chuckle.

There are plenty of YEC websites out there where you could get more "scientific" explanations of their beliefs. Those would likely provide a better, probably more representative sample of what you're seeking. That route would also avoid giving the impression that you're treating one of your fellow forum members as a freakish curiosity for the sake of your amusement.

There are plenty of YEC websites out there where you could get more "scientific" explanations of their beliefs. Did you really just say that? There is nothing "scientific" about their beliefs whatsoever. Even what little know they do know about science they try to use as argument is destroyed by real scientists. It's quite amusing when PZ Myers actually prints some of their emails and then tears them apart. That route would also avoid giving the impression that you're treating one of your fellow forum members as a freakish curiosity for the sake of your amusement. You mean kind of how like Christians treat atheists in real life?

Did you really just say that? There is nothing "scientific" about their beliefs whatsoever. Did I say there was? I only said that, from their vantage point, there are scientific explanations for these things, and those technical explanations are available at creationist sites online. Whether or not you agree with them is beside the point.

Yeah, Christian beliefs are off limits and beyond reproach, I get it. To even ask questions seems to be taboo, at least it was at OO, which caused me to rename that forum "Politics and Politics" since even questioning Christianity was considered offensive. You're the one who is labeling this "freakish curiosity". I'm just asking valid questions of anyone who goes severely against the grain of educated society. When I personally insult someone, you'll have a case against me, until then I'll question whatever I want to. It's called discourse. If you don't like it, read a different forum than one described as religious conversation.

Stop making fun of Christianity, let's talk about Scientology instead. nah, scientology is too much like a science fiction movie, not nearly absurd enough. Christianity on the other hand, is closer to a horror movie and much more juicy.

Wow, that was interesting to watch. That guy went out there and dug for the truth, and found out that Discovery Institutes's list was essentially one big lie. The lengths they were willing to go to try and led credible support to their side, would be comical if it weren't so heinous.
