Rumor has it that one of his transition teams is looking at this plan from the ACLU.

Day One
Stop torturing prisoners
Close Guantanamo Bay
Cease and prohibit extraordinary rendition

First 100 Days put an end to or moratorium on:
warrantless spying
watch lists
the Ashcroft doctrine on FOIA requests
monitoring of activists
the Real ID Act
the abortion gag rule
the death penalty
faith-based initiatives

Double thumbs up.  It's going to be nice to have a President who values the constitution and the rule of law - his transition site even shows the Office of the Vice President as a part of the executive branch.

It sounds as though there's quite a few other things he'll be undoing in the first 100 days, expanding access for stem cell research, reversing the gag rule on contraception in developing nations, etc.  Bush has also been busy prepping close to 100 EOs that'll go into effect over the last days of his presidency, and given that some of them substantially weaken environmental laws, I'd imagine that they'll be undone immediately.

I am almost positive the faith-based initiatives won't be going anywhere.

Otherwise, wow. I doubt it'll be this progressive.

I don't see him wiping out the death penalty.

Its not about wiping it out.

Implement a federal death penalty moratorium until racial disparities are addressed. The federal death penalty system suffers from obvious and extreme racial disparities. In fact, the next six people scheduled to be executed are African-American men. The glaring racial disparities in the federal death penalty system must be carefully studied and addressed, and no executions should take place until this occurs.

This thread is highly misleading

This isn't Obama's view,it's the ACLU, does he have similar opinions with the ACLU?  I'm sure, but they Moilere worded the thread title, is misleading.

I never claimed it was Obama's view. The point of the thread was to say that I'm happy he's got people looking into Bush's Executive Orders which mirror a lot of what the ACLU has stated in their transition plan. If Obama's people are using the ACLU plan as a template all the better.

Looking at that list, it's scary to think what would have happened if the country had continued with that same leadership.  We've still got issues with things like the two party (and only two party) system, activisits, reports, and demonstrators on both sides being harassed by police.

However, all those things listed seemed like a laundry list for anyone taking those small steps to turn a democracy/republic into a dictatorship.

It's seriously time to clean house of all the people who have been abusing those powers granted by the bush administration.
