I've said it so many times, but the insanity of treating those who've conducted terrorism differently depending on their targets is a US mainstay, and it will never be ok.

I didn't even read the article so the comparison does come off a bit weird and insensitive - the post was more to the historical sense that the US can be viewed as being founded on terrorism.

Sure, that's true.  I think the issue here (at least for me, I'm not speaking for Eduardo X), is that our government claims to oppose terrorism "in all its forms".  Of course, this particular terrorist is an enemy of Cuba, so the anti-Castro exiles must be placated.  Certainly the matter of who is a "freedom fighter" and who is a "terrorist" depends on one's individual perspective.

i think the word youre looking for is "insurgent."  the us certainly wasnt founded on terrorism - but you could make the case that it was a successful insurgency. (hell feel free to substitute the words "rebel" and "rebellion" if you want)

while some colonials may have committed acts of pure terror on british-sympathizing fellow colonials, this wasnt the prerogative of the continental army.

this guy, on the other hand, is a terrorist, no bones about it.  our terrorist, but a terrorist none the less - and a several steps beyond the usual cia chicanery

Posada, a naturalized Venezuelan citizen, is alleged to have masterminded the bombing of a Cuban airliner in 1976 on which all 73 on board were killed, including a youth fencing team returning from a tournament in the Venezuelan capital, Caracas. He is also suspected of plotting a series of hotel bombings in Havana in the late 1990s, one of which killed an Italian tourist.

Why is this guy still a free man?

Analysts speculate that the U.S. government has dodged calls for prosecution of Posada for fear he would disclose details of CIA involvement in coups, assassination plots and scandals, including the Iran-Contra Affair.

Oh, that's why.  Well, seeing as how this is a story about a terrorist, I'm sure it's been featured prominently on Fox News.

Not to derail, but that's pretty much the case. I'm not totally opposed to violence, as I believe in self-defense. Che decided, in Bolivia and the Congo, that he knew what was best for the country and tried to wrest the leadership of their respective revolutions from the people he was claiming to be serving. It's a lot like what the US did in - wait for it - Cuba in 1898. "OMG I'M HELPING!"
