In the United States, peanuts are #1, and in Japan chestnuts rule the roost, but I'll fight someone over the last cashew in a bowl of nuts. In fact, while drunk I actually did get into an argument with a guy who cherry-picked all the cashews out of a big bowl of mixed nuts.

Next up would be the Pistachio. I love peanuts, by I'm allergic to the little bastards.

So, what is your favorite nut?

The correct ranking is:

Tier 1
Pistachio, Cashew,

Tier 2
Pecan, Walnut, Sunflower Seeds

Tier 3
Hazelnut, Macadamia

Tier 4
Peanuts, Almond

Peanuts may raise up to tier 3 if they're roasted, tier 2 if they're roasted really well.  Almonds suck as snacks, they're only good if they're used in candy or baked goods.  I can see an argument being made for Macadamia moving up to tier 2, and for hazelnuts moving down to tier 4.

Holy Crap! That is exactly how I would rate the tiers, but Macadamia nuts would be in Tier 2. Peanuts in Tier 4 by default as I'm allergic, and Almonds in Tier 4 because they suck unless found within an Almond Joy bar.

Macadamia in tier 2 is acceptable.  I really love pecans and would like to see them in tier 1, but that's just not the way the world was meant to be.

Harlan Pepper, stop namin' nuts.

Cashew is the correct answer.  Pistachio is a good answer. Walnuts are poison.

Ever had those Salt n' Pepper pistachios? Mama mia.

Yeah, I know. There's one of you guys in every thread.  icon_wink

I'm surprised to see the cashew doing so well. Gaming Trend seems to be a refined forum. Other than those two taste-challenged people who voted for almonds. I'd hate to see what kind of beer they drink

I thought you were crazy until I looked up the Cashew on Wikipedia. Your facts are correct.

And, just to be absolutely certain, I cross-referenced "Wonderpug" and "crazy", but got no matches.

Cashews are my top, but I also really like almonds.  Peanuts are just the cheap crap they put in mixed nuts to fill it out.  Not a fan of macadamia or hazelnuts.

definitely peanuts...not a fan of many others, although macadamia nuts are pretty good.  most others only interest me if they're mixed in with something else...plain just doesn't work for me with much other than peanuts.

I have to add some Hazelnut love, they are my favorite.

Cashew's are also great, as are pistacios, macadamias and almonds.

Walnuts are nasty and pecans aren't that great and I refuse to eat them on principal.

(when I was a kid we had several pecan trees in our yard and during the season I had to pick up a coffee can full of pecans after school before I could come in the house)

The oils surrounding the cashew prior to roasting are poisonous too iirc.  Cashews are the best though, almost creamy in texture.  Pistachios are great unless you have to work to eat them.

I've never understood the people (like my girlfriend) who buy sunflower seeds that are still in their shell (pericarp?). Cracking those things open is WAY too much work to get out one ridiculously small sunflower kernel. At least walnuts and pecans have a respectable reward inside, plus they give you the added carnage of using a nutcracker. And  Pistachios are civilized enough to have the split in the shell which does most of the work for you.

'Peanuts' is too much of a catch all, also.

Like Spanish peanuts?  I'd rather be burned.

It was a toss up between pistachios and cashews, but I picked pistachios as long as I have somewhere to throw the shell away.
Macadamias and almonds are good too.

I don't care much for walnuts or pecans unless it's a pecan pie.  Then it's ok.

Pecan pie. Hell yeah.

The one walnut thing I like is baclava.

My ma makes this stuff called 'Poteca' that is like a big cinnamon sugar nut slug bread thing... she makes it with walnuts or pecans, and it's good with either... though better with pecans.

Walnuts make my mouth sore.

My wife has been on an almond kick lately... it's disturbing. Cashews are numero uno of course.

I voted for my beloved Pistacios.  However, the smoke house almonds, wasabi almonds, jalepeno almonds....I guess flavored almonds are great beer drinking fodder.

I have been known to buy a bag of walnuts and eat the whole thing though.  Make great snacks for my desk at school.

Almonds pwn, but I voted for pistachios.  I pretty much like all nuts, aside from the afformentioned peanuts.  But I guess if there's a bowl of roasted peanuts sitting there staring at me, I can at least be polite and eat a few.
