Soda sales slumping.

Quote
According to Harry Balzer, chief industry analyst at the NPD Group, 71% of all Americans have had a soft drink at least once in a two-week span, down from 81% in 2000. He said that makes carbonated soft drinks the fastest declining item in the American diet.
“I always get a kick out of the attempt to ban soft drinks -- as if consumers aren’t doing this on their own,” said Balzer.

Quote
While Americans consumed an average of 54 gallons a year of carbonated soft drinks in 1998, they now drink 43.8 gallons, according to Beverage Digest.

I've been a 1-3 per week guy for years now (depends on how much Mexican food I eat). So approximately 14.7 gallons of soda per year for me, but I'll round up to 16 to account for the occasional soda at a restaurant.

How....about

I generally drink one can of soda per work day.  And since I drink the odd soda on the weekend I'll round that number up and say I drink about 23 gallons of soda a year.

That number used to be considerably higher just a couple years ago.  When I cut back I lost 15 pounds in just a couple months without doing anything else.

I did a biggest loser challenge thing at work once and basically dropped all soda/sobe that I drink. Switched to just iced tea at restaurants or water. Now regular soda is way to sweet. I maybe have one sobe a week. I still just have iced tea when going out even though that is more of a sham than soda since usually it's 2-2.50 for a glass of tea.

This is me.  Well, I'm probably 75% water, 15% coffee, 5% beer and 5% soda.

I usually can't bear to pay $2 when I eat out for a cup of sugary fizz-water.

I can't imagine drinking a soda a day.

I did as well just to see if I could do it.  I went about a year or so with zero soda, and now I have a Coke here and there depending on my mood, but I'd say that happens once or twice a month.

I will have maybe a soda on the weekends when I am working in the yard and not yet ready for the work ending beer. Maybe once a month I will have a soda with lunch, otherwise I have switched from soda to unsweetened ice tea or water to cut out the calories. And no, I don't do diet soda.

I have cut down to only drinking an iced tea at lunch as my caffeine during the week, but I do still partake in a couple sodas on the weekend.

We go out to eat once a week.  I get a soda then (generally) and, in addition, finish a 2 liter about once every 4-6 weeks.  I leave the math to the reader.  smile

Usually one or two a day at this point.  Since the Wonder Twins are only allowing me 2-3 hours of sleep a night, I'm pretty much surviving on caffeine.

Try Peet's coffee if you can, it's the only chain that actually serves coffee that tastes as good as it smells. It's the only place I know where I'll actually get a straight up coffee, or latte, nothing added.

There's probably even better places, and likely Peet's doesn't have a branch near you, but I just thought I'd chime in and say that there are places that actually serve coffee so good it tastes like how it smells.

As for soda, I treat them now like desserts. I try not to drink it as a thirst quencher, but I've seen slipping due to friends and hang out locations. Otherwise, I usually buy some specialty sodas from places to drink when I need something cold and fizzy.

Looked at the side of the can of my beloved Mountain Dew and saw: Sugars......46g.

What is this soda thing? Real men drink pop!
So Americans drink an average of two per day? Holy crap, that is a lot. I rarely drink cola any more. Maybe 2 or 3 times per year.

I drink coffee in the mornings, seltzer in the afternoons, beer at night. On sober nights I drink a liter of diet soda, but only because I haven't found any better substitute for beer.

Lately I've been enjoying a flavored seltzer called Clear Splash "sparkling spring water", which is basically just soda without any coloring.

I may have one or two sodas a month if that. I get the craving more than Icare to admit though. Pepsi throwback and Chery Coke Zero are my poison of choice. I try to avoid HFCS when possible.

Coffee, however, I can easily drink 4 cups a day if not careful.

I quit drinking soda a few years ago.  When I taste it now it tastes absolutely terrible.  Tea, juice (rarely), or water.

My parents started me with a drop of coffee in my milk when I was 10 or so. The balance changed gradually. By the time I was in high school I was drinking black coffee. My mom bought me my own little 4-cup percolator so that I could make myself a pot without dirtying her big electric perker.

Yes, percolator. Sometimes I still miss the glorious mud that was perked coffee.

they don't seem to want to expand.  from the FAQ on their website:

Quote
If the demand is present, why won’t Yuengling enter more states?

Yuengling is a regional brewery that has manufacturing facilities in Pottsville PA and Tampa FL. It simply is not logistically feasible to transport beer outside of our current footprint.

Yuengling is proud to have had ongoing expansions over the past years. The current focus is on those loyal customers that we currently supply. Continuing to provide quality beer and service to meet the existing demand is what the Yuengling family values above growing territory.

I probably drink somewhere between 4-8 diet sodas a day. With Coke Zero being my poison of choice.
