This reads like some kind of strange joke:

http://www.cbsnews.com/8301-204_162-57589423/japanese-eyeball-licking-trend-carries-blindness-risk/

Quote
Japanese blog Naver Matome interviewed one concerned teacher who said that he ran into two sixth grade students licking each others' eyeballs in an equipment room. After he confronted them, they admitted it was popular in their class. His independent survey of students confirmed his fears: One-third of the children admitted to eyeball licking.

I wonder how prevalent eye infections are as a result.

School teachers figured this was a trend when as many as 10 kids in a class had pink eye.  Apparently a Japanese band features this in a video and the kids picked up on it as a way to show you like someone.

A news story that I read a couple of days ago said it's a big health problem. The surface of the eyeball is sterile. The mouth is decidedly not. Kids: Don't try this at home!

If you think any surface on the human body is sterile, you're getting your information from the wrong places.  I would trust these guys more than wherever you heard that.

OK, *kind of* sterile. Go ahead and lick eyeballs.
