Couldn't find this topic in search..
So anyway, looks like its canceled...
http://arstechnica.com/tech-policy/2014/12/sony-hackers-terror-threat-prompts-movie-chain-to-pass-on-the-interview/
Don't agree with canceling it.. heck if they cancel it, they won't make any money, so maybe give a big middle finger to the terrorists and release it for free so everyone can see it.

Well, they are talking about a paid VOD release.  You don't just throw away 50+ million bucks...

Oh, except at the moment they are now saying not... huh...

http://variety.com/2014/film/news/sony-has-no-further-release-plans-for-the-interview-1201382167/?_r=true

I'm sure we'll see it at some point.  Probably after the war.

Eh, it was a stupid concept to begin with.  Can you imagine the outrage and anger if some middle eastern country had made a movie all about killing the actual president?  (pretending that they have a Hollywood size industry, stars, budget, marketing, worldwide distribution, etc like Sony and this movie)

That's my take on it, although I think they were just cashing in on a very popular image of Kim Jong Un as this very odd character. I don't think they would have dreamed of doing it with any other country, but NK's leader just begs to be made fun of. Anyway, they have every right to make such a movie, but it is in poor taste.

Did Team America call out the leader by name?

Oh, and if you're into bad ideas, here's a particularly good one:

http://www.techradar.com/us/news/gaming/consoles/why-sony-canceling-the-interview-in-theaters-is-a-huge-win-for-ps4-1277603

If one were to use a Venn diagram to show the actual footprint of people willing to buy a digital movie, on an exclusive console, the overlap is going to be a small subset. Not going to make the 44 million for production costs, or the 30 million in advertising.

Yikes.

You're right, I guess that movie exists, but I had never heard of it and I bet neither had anyone else here or really most people across the country.  I think that's a little different than a major holiday movie with a couple of big name Hollywood actors from a major international movie studio like Sony and the marketing budget to go along with that.  In comparison there would be no outcry over a movie nobody hears about.

I think another thing that article glosses over is that smaller movies frequently release on Xbox video (and probably other streaming services) at the same time they hit theaters or even weeks before.  They act as if Comcast and their $60 Tower Heist debacle is the only time somebody has tried to release a movie to streaming near it's theatrical release date.

Well... I was actually surprised you hadn't heard of it.  It got a fair amount of press when it came out.  There were some people who were mad about it, of course.  I agree the profile wasn't nearly as high as with The Interview, but it wasn't something nobody had heard of.

I don't have a problem with either of them (nor have I seen either of them).

Funny how this worked out. Looked like a very average movie, that would have probably been soon forgotten. Now, it seems that everyone on them Internet can't wait to see it.

Still haven't heard if it's any good.

Eh, it's okay. Definitely not worth all the drama. It had it's moments but it's basically like any other stoner type comedy.

Not interested in it at all, glad it's available to be watched though.  The fuckhead running NK is asking to be made fun of.  Are you kidding me?  Any wonder they're still in the dark age?  I say that sympathetically.

Still the movie looks like crap, and is scoring as such on rottentomatoes for what it's worth.

Might have smiled or snickered once or twice. Lame and not worth the time. I did think that the actor who played Kim was good.

Yeah, I watched it when it hit Netflix and enjoyed it but didn't think it was awesome.  3/5 for me.  I thought the guy who played Kim Jong Un did surprisingly well and was probably the best part.
