You're in Texas, right? The ice age is upon us.
It's been surprisingly quiet so far in MA, with just one dusting. That said, we only had 2 snowstorms last winter after a hellish 2010-2011 season, and one was at the end of October. Curious to see what we get this year. The snowblower I picked up last year hasn't been a great investment yet.

Yup, Dallas. We'll be back in the 60s by Wednesday. Up the road in Wichita Falls, they were closing schools and delaying work starts for the Air Force base.

Should keep you nice and warm. Here in northern lower MI it's been relatively peaceful so far. We had some lake effect snow for a few days a week or so ago but that melted and now we are getting the first of a 'real winter storm snowfall'. Hopefully it will repeat last winter with minimal accumulation until April when a huge storm hit with tons of wet sloppy snow that weighed down everything for a couple days and then was done.

A comforter is different (in Canada at least - which is more akin to a quilt or blanket)- a Duvet is meant to have a slip-cover over it, and you can forgo the top sheet, and just wash the Duvet cover instead. Not that we forgo ANY layers in Winterpeg. Also, Celcius is correct. Anyone telling you to use Fahrenheit needs to get out of the 1700's. We don't care at what temperature brine freezes. The only reason Canada has both is to prevent communication breakdown with the States.

Fahrenheit is more discreet. I can tell the difference in a 2 degree F swing in my environment. Sometimes 1 degree makes a world of difference. I really don't want to switch to dealing with 1/2 degree C increments, thank you very much.

Also, we've had snow here since the beginning of November. Freezing rain makes things interesting, now that the cold has really settled in. http://www.weatheroffice.gc.ca/city/pages/mb-38_metric_e.htmlWindchill is the hard part though. -35C today w. the wind. Exposed skin freezes in 10-20 minutes. There's a reason we have this.

bah, sorry i forgot you guys don't use Celsius(damn we are more different that i realise sometimes) ...looking on a C>F converter,it looks like 8C is 46.4F and yeah the Duvet with a slip cover is what i use Purge...not sure why we call it a Duvet,i suppose its just one of those French words we use like Cul-De-Sac or DeJa Vu because we can't come up with our own word...(Okay,what's a Quilt then?,LOL) I just remembered that NASA picture i posted a year or two ago of Britain that picture was when it was -18c..so still some dip in the mercury to go until then EDIT: damn Purge,-35c,ouch!!

In my small-but-ever-expanding-mind, this is what these words mean:
Duvet - normally down filled, gets its own removable cover. It tends to be puffy, and is a single entity solution.
Comforter - also filled (generally synthetic, down comforters are thusly named to distinguish). Is used as a blanket, being the heavy layer over a top sheet.
Quilt - also filled, though not always, it represents a patchwork piece and isn't generally used with a duvet cover. It tends to be the top blanket, were a comforter would be below it.
Blanket - not filled, this is either woven, solid or patchwork fabric or is made from hides (real or synthetic).

The snowblower I picked up last year hasn't been a great investment yet.
Same here, but I would be happy to keep my new and unused snowblower covered up and idle for the rest of my life. I did mount my snow tires (snicker) a few weeks ago because they ride so much smoother than my summer tires. I'm afraid I need to replace those already, with less than 30k miles on them.

It's been a surprisingly cold season so far in the middle of Norway. We typically get to christmas before the snow settles down and the cold begins to get really noticeable, but this year has been pretty damn cold since early November, going down to -15C or lower for extended periods. Add in strong winds and you've got an actual temperature that is considerably lower. Not a lot of snow, though we did have a boatload at the end of November that disappeared a week later.
Global warming is impossible not to notice around here (though some people do anyway, mostly because they don't understand what it means). Weather has been extreme for several years now. The summers get colder and the winters get milder. To experience a cold winter again is quite refreshing. Typically the cold doesn't appear until March, for some reason.
This year we had a fricking snowfall on June 1st! If you don't know much about Norway you may assume that the country is snow-covered all the time, but that's far, far from the truth. We're lucky to get one full month of snow every year up here. To see large snow flakes fall from the sky on the first day of summer was demoralizing, to put it mildly. The weather remained cold and wet throughout the entire summer, but luckily no snow. I'm hoping the winter remains cold to compensate. There's few things as shitty as a mild winter.

I have a good old American duvet cover on my bed, just sayin'. I guess you can call what gets stuffed inside it whatever you want (although my wife refers to it as a comforter).
