When I discovered "Doctor Who", I was a wee lad.  The actor who played him was Mr. Tom Baker - so to me, that is the real Doctor Who.

So I ask you, the people... Who is the real Doctor to you?

Clockwise from top left: William Hartnell (First Doctor), Patrick Troughton (Second Doctor), Jon Pertwee (Third Doctor), Tom Baker (Fourth Doctor), Peter Davison (Fifth Doctor), Colin Baker (Sixth Doctor), Sylvester McCoy (Seventh Doctor), Paul McGann (Eighth Doctor), Christopher Eccleston (Ninth Doctor), David Tennant (Tenth Doctor).

The first Doctor Who I saw was Peter Davison and I watched all the Jon Pertwee episodes as well as the Tom Baker ones.  They were all great but I have to say David Tennant is doing a fabulous job.  I'm voting for him.

I have to go with the scarf wearer too, although I wish we had more time with Eccleston...

I watched Dr Who on the weekends at my Dad's house in the 80's. It was Tom Baker.  He was great. Jelly Baby?

I grew up watching Tom Baker play the Doctor, so he comes to mind first.

Never having watched the old series I had to go with David Tennant.

Tom Baker.  (I think) His episodes were the first ones shown in the US and he had the longest run.  Post Baker I kinda liked Peter Davidson and Sylvester McCoy.  McCoy could have been a more memorable Doctor if he had better written episodes.  The show was definitely on it's last legs by then though.

David Tennant has been a great new Doctor.  I can't wait for the next new season to start.

I think I told this before but I literally ran into him at a Doctor Who convention as I was coming out of the elevator and he was entering.  I knocked him back a couple of steps but he was pretty gracious about it.

Despite knowing a decent bit of the backstory for years (how, I have no idea... is it genetic amongst geeks?), I hadn't watched any incarnations of the doctor prior to the "reboot" with Eccleston. I thought Eccleston did a good job, but now that I've seen Tennant in the role, I'm floored. Great show, with a great actor.

I've been thinking about going back and watching some of the older stuff. Any recommendations on where to start?

I share my last name with Dr. Who #5 so that's why I'm so picky!
