LOL..Id love it if bosses caught all the slackers at that crap and fired them on the spot. I saw a big line of them on the news tonight and the wife and I had a good laugh poking fun at the dorks. Teenagers and under I might understand but I saw people my age in that line in dressup. Embarassing.

You know, if the world wanted to rid itself of the major portion of geekdom, this weekend would be an ideal time.

I believe it.  Just like I believe it when the gov't said Ebay was a vital part of the American economy.

I'll hazard a guess and say:
Dressing up in a team jersey is no less geeky than wearing a Star Wars costume, it's just that more people like sports and so our society doesn't look down on it.

While I see lots of people in Jerseys, I see way less in the full uniform just walking around.

Someone wearing a nfl jersey would be more similar to someone wearing a star wars t-shirt than someone wearing full on star wars outfit.

Still, to each his own.

Just wait until a furries movie comes out. Just imagine that line. smile

Hopefully it wouldnt be in the summer because those costumes are hot (I used to work at Toys R Us and had to dress as one of the giraffes for the grand opening and just instore it was hot)

I have stormtrooper armor and it's one of my pride and joys in life (well for material acquisitions anyway).  We do a lot of charity events and the look of joy on just one child's face (and his/her parents' faces) makes me impervious to any amount of ill-willed mocking (the Conan skit with Triumph is one of my favs).  Just like the healthy mix of people we have on this board from all walks of life, the 501st is the same way.  There's everybody from the hard core ones who probably have Yoda underoos to people like me who just like it 'cause it's fun.

Daehawk,

I think your only problem is that you're not old enough, lol.  Ever read the poem that goes, more or less: "When I'm old, I'll wear purple"?
Here it is:

WARNING, by Jenny Joseph

"When I am an old woman I shall wear purple
With a red hat which doesn't go and doesn't suit me.
And I shall spend my pension on brandy and summer gloves
And satin sandals, and say we've no money for butter.
I shall sit down on the pavement when I'm tired
And gobble up samples in shops and press alarm bells
And run my stick along the public railings
And make up for the sobriety of my youth.
I shall go out in my slippers in the rain
And pick the flowers in other people's gardens . . .
But maybe I ought to practice a little now?
So people who know me are not too shocked and surprised
When suddenly I am old, and start to wear purple."

The older you get, the less you care about upholding other people's images of you - or your image of them.  If a teen wants to have a blue (or purple) Mohawk, I'm happy that they feel they can express themselves and their family is open enough to understand that appearance is not always the indicator of quality of person.

BTW... I got all philosophical on you because I just got an official Red Sox team jacket as a late (backordered) Christmas present - go Sox! Tongue
