Why can't i get my money from PayPal?

I recently sold an item on eBay and received payment through PayPal.    When the payment showed up on PayPal, the status was on-hold.    That was on October 22.....and it's still showing as on-hold.    I shipped the item and i see through UPS delivery confirmation that the item was received.   I've sent messages to the winner bidder to confirm that he did indeed receive the item.   He has not responded to me.

So i'm wondering why is the status on-hold for this long and how can i go about getting the money?   The amount in question is $115, so it's not peanuts i'm talking about.   Anyone know what the deal is?    I want my damn money!!

Off the top of my head, it's probably an availability of funds issue.  They won't release it until they have actually received it themselves.  This process can take 7-10 days domestically and they can banks can put different levels of holds on them.  Heck, my bank put a 7-day hold on the check from my insurance company for the settlement on my car.

I have no idea what the hold is, but you maybe shouldn't have shipped until the payment cleared.

Paypal is a payment clearing house, but you didn't wait for the "all clear".   The only good news is that it still reads "on hold" and that may be because they are trying to give the guy another shot or something?  (bounced check, zipcode changed with his credit card billing address, that kind of thing).

Not sure, I think you need to wait and see what paypal does with the "on hold"

I wouldn't get aggresive with the buyer yet - but a nice email about the 'on hold' status - and if he knows anything about it wouldn't be out of order.

I had an issue once and I called paypal.  Took two calls (and waiting to get someone) who could explain things -she was able to tell me what was going on and what to do and had it cleared up the next day,  might not hurt to call them and see what they have to say.
