You may want to change or add to the title of the thread to say "desktop" instead of background...I thought it was asking about my personal heritage or something.

My biggest problem in finding good desktops is that I run at 1600x1200 and 9 times out of ten the background isn't offered in that size. BTW I love the mythbusters desktop!

I know we go over this in every single one of these threads, but good god Daehawk, how in the hell do you know what's where in all that?

Imagine a black pixel, color 0 in all ways besides the alpha channel (:p). Now copy that pixel 1279 times more to the right. The pixel has become a line. Now copy that line 1023 times down the screen. Behold! An entire WALL of formless, rectangular shaped void! Thus has the lowly pixel conquered the entire screen area.
This is my background.

Hey disarm, what skin is that you're using for windows and what program is it in? It's nice and clean, and I haven't found anything that looks that nice yet. I use windowblinds, as I find stylexp borks several things on my PC for some reason.

I use windowblinds, as I find stylexp borks several things on my PC for some reason. bad news for you then...that's a theme for StyleXP i've been using StyleXP for almost two years now without any trouble and think it's a great program (and it doesn't hurt that i won a free registration key). what version have you tried in the past? they released v2.0 about a year ago, and they've had several updates since then...maybe the latest one would work. as for the skin, it's just one that i stumbled across a long time ago at this site. the one i'm using is called Chrome4[XP] 2nd Generation and can be downloaded here. i really like the theme because it's very compact, clean, and the dark color looks great. when you download the style, it also comes with several other versions in different colors than black that look pretty good. finally, it didn't hurt that the same guy made a matching theme for Trillian Pro that i use as well i took another screenshot with the Start menu open, my Trillian contact list up, and an open window to show the full theme. you can check it out here
