Just now, I'm listening to "Girl From the North Country" by Bob Dylan and Johnny Cash, and it's making me feel pretty wistful and nostalgic. It just makes me flash back to when I was younger and I was dating this woman who was my first love. I never even heard the song back then, it just evokes these memories in me. I tend to be drawn to the sadder songs; one of my favorites is "I Grieve" by Peter Gabriel, for it starts off really mournful before lifting up in the bridge and then going back down at the end. Gabriel and Paul Simon are my favorite sad songwriters. Anyway, this is a bit rambling, but what are y'all's favorite weepies?

"Wanting Memories" is a standard for a cappella groups. This one's my favorite. Here's one with lyrics. You can't hear this with a dry eye if you've lost a parent. I've probalby heard it 100 times and it chokes me up every time.

Cats in the Cradle
Whiter Shade of Pale (no idea, but the song just makes me depressed)
In the Arms of an Angel (haven't heard it in a while, but it reduced me to a sobbing mass when I was younger).
Pretty much all of The Wall
So This is Christmas?

A couple jump immediately to mind: Assemblage 23 - 30,000 Feet. A passenger on a flight was just informed they were going to crash and leaves a final voice mail for his wife and kids. This one is brutal and uplifting at the same time. Type O Negative - Bloody Kisses (A Death in the Family). Reaction to the suicide of a family member. Woods of Ypres - Alternate Ending. The prophetic final song ever recorded by Woods of Ypres, as their lead singer was killed in a car accident shortly after it was finished. The verse "Back on the highway/Under the moon/My final moments/Still wondering about you" give me chills every time I hear it. Alice in Chains - Don't Follow. A beautiful, haunting song that is even more powerful considering what happened to the artist (Layne Staley died of a heroin OD). Carach Angren - Funerary Dirge of a Violinist - (warning: black metal) Tells the story of a WWII medic who played the violin each night to keep up the morale of his unit. In order to distract the enemy, he walks onto the battlefield playing his instrument. The combat stops while everyone listens to the moment of beauty in the midst of the horror, then he and his squad are mowed down. The video is kinda cheesy, but the story (which is supposedly true) really gets to me.

Whiter Shade of Pale (no idea, but the song just makes me depressed) This made me think of Nights in White Satin by The Moody BluesSo This is Christmas? although TBH,this is the only Christmas song i can stand If you really want to hear a song to throw yourself off a cliff to... Spoiler for Hiden: Even worse if you are a big fan of the RUN DMC/Aerosmith version, like i am Or in fact any Comic Relief song, most are covers..these fuckers need to be stopped,i don't give two shits if its for charity

Fuck! I KNEW that but for some reason I was thinking of Cat Stevens because I almost listed his song too. Blargh. Oh, I see what happened. The YouTube link I used identifies the singer as Cat Stevens so, even though I know better, I must have just typed his name out of laziness. Also, because I'm an idiot.

Alice in Chains - Don't Follow. A beautiful, haunting song that is even more powerful considering what happened to the artist (Layne Staley died of a heroin OD). Awesome song, another favorite (about/by layne staley) Mad Season (Layne on vocals) - Wake up"Slow suicide's no way to go" Tom Waits - Martha

Ooooh, I love Martha. Another one that gets me is " Goodbye, Dear Friend" by Deer Tick. I included the Sons of Anarchy video for that extra bit of sadness.

Al Stewart's Roads to Moscow would be my favorite, although it might be classified as more depressing than sad. I guess its sad in the sense that it's based on the true lives of many Russian soldiers who got shafted by their own nation.

Chicago 'Chasin' the Wind' always been a classic. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=abKsLKq5UM8And Disciple's "Things left unsaid" really hits home with my grandmother and not getting the chance to say good bye to her. Christian band yes, but this song doesn't "preach" anything it's just him singing from losing a family member. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bmtj4mIxkd0
