I've been thinking a bit about this post and how/why my gaming time has simply disappeared over the last few years. Realized this morning that my routine is such that I don't even know where I'd fit in much gaming, even if I wanted to. Every Mon-Fri (that I'm not traveling) looks something like this: 4:45am - Wake up, get dressed, breakfast 5:15 - Drive to gym 5:45 - Workout & shower 7:00 - Get to work 4:00 - Leave work 4:30 - Watch Little B (my 2 year old) while Mrs. Gratch goes to work (she typically works from 5:00-11:30) 8:00 - Put B to bed, tidy up house (wash dishes, feed animals, pick up toys, etc), get ready for the following day (i.e. make lunch, put gym bag together, etc.) 8:45 - Free time...yay! 9:30pm - Bed I literally only have about 45 minutes in the evenings that I can spend doing anything other that working or watching the little one. No wonder I'm feeling like my days are completely getting away from me lately! With the wide variety of professions and personalities we have around here, I'm curious what daily routine folks have.

Yikes that's a rough schedule, no quality time during the week with the wife (not judging), just sucks. Yeah, that's been the toughest part over the last couple years. We're finally getting to the point financially where Mrs. Gratch won't have to work as much (paid off the last of the credit card last month, paying off the car this month...will have no debt other than house payment ), which will hopefully give us some time together in the evenings at least a couple days a week. Will be nice to get that back.

4:00am - Wake up 4:45am - Workout, shower, help get my daughter ready for school and drink protein shake 6:45am - Drive to work 7:30am - Work 4:30pm - Drive home 5:15pm - Watch news, play with my daughter 6:00pm - Eat dinner 6:30pm - Relax with my wife and daughter 7:30pm - Give my daughter a bath and get her ready for bed 8:00pm - Get my daughter to bed and read to her 8:30pm - Read 9:00pm or 9:30pm - Go to sleep
I guess I could sneak in some gaming time in there, but I would have to forego time with my wife and daughter if I did that.

roughly
9:30am wake up 10am work 7pm get off work 7:30pm dinner 8pm doggie time 9:30pm fiancee time 11:30pm my time 1am attempt to sleep 4:30am dogs outside time 5am get some more sleep
I had a schedule where I kept taking out the dogs around 4am and unfortutnately it kind of stuck with them. I've been slowly trying to break them of it, so hopefully that 4:30am outside time will go away eventually.

I don't have a routine. Every day is a new adventure.
However, on average, my days go something like this:
4:30 AM - 5:00 AM : Wake up, make coffee, breakfast 5:00 AM - 7:30 AM : Email, internet, PC gaming 7:30 AM - 8:00 AM : Drive wife to work, drive self to work 5:00 PM - 5:30 PM : Pick up wife from work, drive home 5:30 PM - 6:30 PM : With wife, prepare and eat dinner 6:30 PM - 10:00 PM : TV, internet, movies, PC gaming 10:00 PM - 11:00 PM : Sex with wife 11:00 PM - 11:30 PM : Reading until asleep
Naturally, not every day is like that as we sometimes go out or run errands etc.
Weekends are much more active with lawn care, hot rod project, etc

Pretty typical weekdays for me....
7:30 AM : Get awoken by dog in one of several annoying ways. The face nudge, the lay on my feet, the rope toy on the chest, the repeated dropping of the food bowl on the tile...all in play.
7:35 AM : Get out of bed, make coffee, feed dog, brush teeth, check e-mails and the happenings in the world via internet.
7:45-8:00 AM : Drink coffee on deck, have a smoke or two.
8 AM : Sit down at PC and check work e-mails.
9 AM : Make work related phone calls.
9:30-noon : Draw lines and circles for money while consuming vast quantities of coffee and nicotine.
Noon-1 PM : Cook lunch, eat, wrestle with dog, shower, powernap.
1-4:30 PM : Draw more lines and circles.
4:30 -5 PM : Make final work related calls and e-mails.
5 - 6:30 PM : Chore time, cooking, eating, feed the beast...another powernap if I'm not in a rush to get out of the house.
6:30-11:30 PM : Twice a week means off to the studio for a music session, all other weekdays are a various mix of practicing on an instrument, gaming, doggie play time, visiting family/friends, going out socially, perhaps more work if a deadline is coming fast.
11:30 PM-1 AM : TV time, late night snack, last check of the world via internet...then crawl into bed.
1 - 2 AM : Slowly drift out for a few hours of REM.

The amount of time that I spend working is seasonal. During the summer it's only a few hours a day, during the fall and winter it's more, and during the xmas season (Halloween through January) it's something more than fulltime. But, in general, it goes like this:
7:30 alarm goes off 8:30 get out of bed, get coffee, get newspaper, take a dump 9:30 go walking (3-4 miles), weather permitting 10:30 sit down to work 11:30 check message boards noonish lunch 1:00 - 5:00 some mixture of working and screwing off, depending on workload and motivation 5:30 start dinner 7:00 eat dinner, watch TV or a movie 9:00 message boards and gaming 2:00 bed

Damn, some of you guys get up early. I gradually adjusted myself to be able to wake up without an alarm, usually about 20-30 minutes after the sun comes up. Which means I get up late in the winter, and earlier in the summer. But a typical day would be:
out of bed by 7:00-7:30 off to work by about 8:00 work until 4:00 - 5:00, head home 5:00 through 9:00 is family/activity time - dinner, kids, maybe a bit of work follow-up or emailing, occasional events or martial arts practice, then bedtime routines for the kids 9:00 - midnight is free time for me and the wife. Usually we'll hang out and watch TV, I'll do some gaming, email, etc. Sometimes we work out together, or play board games.
The period between kids' bedtime and my bedtime is my only chance for gaming or "me time". It irritates me sometimes that I have to spend my entire day doing things for other people before I finally get some time for myself. I suppose I could flip it around and get up early and do my own thing before work, but I'm not much of a morning person.

My routine depends on whether I am teaching a class for work or not, and whether the class is in town or on-site at a customer location. When teaching a class in town my routine is roughly:
4:30 AM - Wake up, shower, read some comics/news/email 5:30 AM - Leave for work, drive through bad traffic 7:00 AM - Arrive at work 5:00 PM - Leave work 7:00 - 7:30 PM - Arrive home from work 7:30 PM - Spend 15 minutes with the kids before putting them to put. 7:45 PM - Put both daughters to bed, sit down and watch some TV with the wife. 9:00 PM - If nothing much is on, or we have little taped, my wife will read a book and I will do some gaming 10:30 PM - Go to bed

Yeah my routine is hardly routine given that I am not in SF 50% of the time and even when I am, I don't always go into the office, but let's do one of those days since they are the most routine I've got.
Sometime between 6am - 8am - Wake up/shower/dress and stuff Sometime between 7am - 9:30am - Leave for office 10 minutes or an hour later (depends on which office I go to) - Arrive at office Sometime between 3:30pm - 7pm - Leave office 10 minutes or an hour later - Arrive back home After that, I either watch sports, tv, play games, read, go out to dinner, meet friends at bars, play with the dog, or tidy up the house a bit. It really just depends on the day. Sometime between 10pm - 2am - Go to bed
I suppose even that is not very routine, after typing it out.

These days, a typical weekday:
5:40 - get up 6:00 - work out (@ home, or like today, some running outside) 7:00 - breakfast, shower, coffee 8:15 - work 12:00 - lunch 12:45 - work 5:00 - home, talk to wife/kid 5:30 - 8:00- - Sometimes (less as fall advances) I go do 60 - 120 minute mountain bike training rides - Sometimes I cook dinner, or, like tonight, go BBQ w/ family and friends and work on bikes, etc. - Eat dinner - Sometimes watch a movie w/ the kid - Sometimes do whatever... walks, bike rides, 8:00 - 9:15 - at some point we do (or don't do) a kid bath, brush teeth, read stories, etc. 9:15 - 11:00 - read, play games, watch a movie, sometimes meet up with friends, whatever
So, so glad my commute is about 3 minutes.

7ish - listen to podcast while making coffee, puttering about 7:30ish - hang out with dogs in backyard, drinking coffee and reading 8:30ish - evaluate and start chores (sweeping, dusting, yard, cleaning bathroom, etc...) 10ish - play Xbox or go for a bike ride Noonish - go to work 10ish - come home from work, hang out with the missus, watch tv for an hour 11ish - go to bed
We also have a weekly and monthly schedule. For instance, Sunday nights is usually an evening with friends. Tuesdays the wife and I usually go ride bikes and take in a movie. Wednesday nights is usually a pot luck barbecue, where anywhere from 1 to 5 people are likely to show up. although sometimes it's just us. This week is beef back ribs on the smoker.
We are pushing 40 and childless, so obviously we haven't the pressures of domestic life like most people. If anything our time is too limited, but we try to make the best of it.

LIAR! CeeKay swiped your diary (the words Hepcat Bible etched on the leatherbound front, with ... stains on it), and faxed it over to Kanukistan. In the HB it states your daily ritual is: 6:30am - make belly-button jello-pops to guest of Sesame Street. noon - wake up to a sticky belly. 1:30pm - head to the pound and pretend something likes you. 4:00pm - eat advil and begin pounding non-alcoholic beer, occassionally pseudo-drunk-dialing zekester. 8:00pm - get home with McDonalds, call mom and whine that you can't find anyone that's right for you. 9:00pm - put your teddy in the wash, start reading cosmo, switch to dryer. 11:00pm - take teddy out of dryer, set TV to PBS and curl up on kitchen floor.

9:00pm - put your teddy in the wash, start reading cosmo, switch to dryer. 11:00pm - take teddy out of dryer, set TV to PBS and curl up on kitchen floor.
"Mr. hossenfef-fur" is dry clean only. That you don't know this seriously casts doubt on your assertion that you were able to get hold of my diary. Also, I would never use the phrase "set TV" as here in the U S of A we actually outlawed that turn of phrase. We "change the channels" on our televisions, which is far less ridiculous.

My work schedule is not consistent, so there is really no routine for me to get into - some days I have to be in at 7AM, others I don't go to work until 7PM. Throw in that I don't have kids or a wife/fiance/girlfriend at the moment and there is really no reason to find a routine either.
