Why is he directing so many videogame movies?

He has Alone in the Dark under his belt.  frown

According to IMDB.com, he's directing Bloodrayne, Hunter:The Reckoning (maybe not based on the game, but there's a game out for it), FarCry, Dungeon Siege and Postal within the next couple years.  Couldn't they find anyone else...anyone better?

I watched the Bloodrayne trailer yesterday and wasn't impressed.  Alone in the Dark was terrible.  I have a very bad feeling about these movies.

He's clearly made a deal with the Devil.

I may be in the minority, but I actually liked Resident Evil.  I can see how fans of the game would be ticked at them changing the whole story, however.

I read somewhere recently where he was referred to as "the slumlord of cinema."

Long story short - there WAS a loophole until recently that allowed private investors in Germany to 'shelter' their money by investing it in 'cinema'.  Uwe, smelling a chance to practice making bad movies, takes up a bunch of people on their offer - those people get to write off a loss and pay less taxes, Uwe gets to...uh...I dunno, burn in Hell for his part in the scheme.  The German government has recently closed that loophole, so after his current projects are closed, he'll have to get his money the old fashioned way...prostitution.

Yeah, he was getting rich off of the shitty movies he made, a la The Producers, but in this case it had to do with the German taxation laws, as KD stated. He was basically exploiting crap cinema to make money.

I liked Resident Evil (both of them) as well. Alone in the dark wasn't that bad either.. and even if it's just for the lesbian vampire stuff going on in BloodRayne, it's at least worth a rental.

Uwe Boll didn't work on Resident Evil- that was another (albeit slightly more talented) hack- Paul Anderson of AvP and Mortal Kombat "fame".

It's sad that those two seem to be monopolizing the video game movie biz.  At least Peter Jackson will have a hand in the Halo movie coming out.  Let's hope he doesn't pick Uwe Boll to direct.

Something tells me Peter Jackson wouldn't pick Uwe Boll to wipe his ass.  There's no way he'd pick him to direct a movie.

A recent rumour has Guillermo del Torro (sp?) to direct Halo. He's the dude that did Blade II and Hellboy.
