and I think I should have asked some of you locals for places out of the normal tourist areas to explore. We stayed at Hotel Metropolis which is a nice little hotel but it's right on the corner of Mason and Market and all night long you could hear the homeless people hanging out on Market. The overwhelming smell of urine on Market was enough to keep us off it. Not to mention the homeless woman taking a dump in a trash can right on the sidewalk at 1:00pm with families trying trying to shield their kids eyes and drag them as quickly by as they could. Ugh...by far the dirtiest place I've been to and I was surprised by that. Figured San Francisco to be a cleaner place.
We did enjoy the Asian Art Museum and the Legion of Honor. The Molinari Deli in North Beach is a great little Italian deli...we walked out of there with $80 worth of cheeses and salami
Other than those places we were a little underwhelmed with the downtown area. How many upscale clothing stores can you really want to go to?
We've done Haight/Ashbury a couple times before on day trips into the city but this was our first time spending the weekend.
