This news item is from my home province of Ontario, Canada.

I think our attorney General has too much time on his hands. Instead of addressing the nation-wide abuse of seniors, the imminent end of the Canada pension plan, the recent near-collapse of our health care system, the devastating effects of free trade and the G.S.T. on small business, our Ontario Hydro problems or the several hundred percent increases in province-wide insurance rates in the last year... he proposes a ban against pit bulls.

Rocket scientists...

I heard on the radio that if the Toronto CFL team makes it to the playoff semi-finals, their game will be delayed two days because the Wiggles already booked a concert at their stadium.

A "football team" pwned by the Wiggles. That is why I would be ashamed.

"Nation-wide abuse of seniors"?
Isn't this overstating things a little? What evidence...?

I am a Canadian and live in Kitchener, the first city in Ontario to ban pit bulls. We have had a significant reduction in the number of ugly incidents of people being attacked.

The maximum amount of federal assistance a senoir can get is just over 1050 dollars at this point, yet a person claiming refugee status can get up to 3000 a month despite never having contributed to the country.

Do a search, you'll see what I mean. Plus if you've never tired to get a parent or grandparent into a decent rest home in Ontario, you have no idea how bad it is if you're not among the rich. We pulled grandma from her rest home after a week of investigating them... many are crooks if you look into it.

I like dogs. Any dog can be a good dog, if trained properly.

And if I had a dollar for every time I had sixty-cents, I'd be Canadian.

Cleric7 I agree with you that incidences like that do go down after bans, which is good, but it teaches people nothing about responsible dog ownership. We all know that German Shepherd, Rottweilers and Retrievers (yes retrievers) are responsible for more reported attacks than Pitbulls, but they're the flavour of the month right now.

Frankly anybody whose dog attacks someone should do jail time and yes I am a dog owner. My Bull Terrier "Frodo" has never and will never attack anyone.

LOL at Fireball! I love it. Thanks for rubbing it in. Wanna buy some Monopoly money?

This is not unexpected here, there has been an outcry for the banning for awhile now due to the numerous attacks by these specific dogs. Just recently, we've had one individual that was mauled while cutting his grass, while another was mauled severely by the pitbulls he was actually taking for a walk.

Personally speaking, why should I have to worry every time my wife and/or I take my daughter out for a walk, or to the park, about getting mauled by a pitbull or any other dog with a history of attacking humans? I've got enough dangers out there to protect her from, don't need another that is totally preventable with proper laws in place.  :x

I agree with you that the key is to teach responsible dog ownership to ALL owners. And I'd love to see jail time for irresponsible owners! The problem goes well beyond pitbulls...

Pitbulls have very few qualities that make them good urban or even suburban pets.  Plus, fuck them.  I say if we can create a breed like that, we can destroy it.

On an unrelated note, the Canadian $dollar has been flirting with 80 cents american for awhile now.

I love the fact that Pitbulls are banned.  Soon I won't have to carry a tire iron when I walk my golden.
