Official Home Page.

Check out that teaser artwork. Very, very cool. I'm wondering what twists and turns Spielberg is going to take with this one.

I've pretty much shelved this one when they said it wasn't going to be a period piece, but a modern retelling of the War of the Worlds.

The George Pal version was a classic...but I was really looking forward to a version set in late Victorian/early Edwardian England.

Speilberg?  I bet it'll have a warm, fuzzy ending.  smile  I like Speilberg but he does like his emotionally pleasing, if not always happy, endings.  Should be a great Summer popcorn flick.

Are all the policemen going to use walki-talkies instead of guns?

I'm very curious to see how they make it so it doesn't seem like Independence Day all over again.

The original broadcast of the War of The Worlds took place in my hometown.  When I was in boy scouts there was a parade for its anniversery and I got dressed up in huge green garbage cans and painted my face green and marched up and down the tiny streets for 2 hours.  I use to smoke cigarettes by the plaque commemorating the broadcast.

Unfortunately I don't know that much about the story.  Though I know there is a casting call in northern virginia somewhere.

Well they could probably start with a good script. smile

My 2 cents,

Dictator Bush today, along with Axis co-leader Emperor Tony Blair, announced joint plans to invade Mars. The decision was based on top secret CIA intteligence reports from THISwebsite. When asked to comment on his decision to invade, Mr. Bush was quoted as saying..." I think Tom Cruise is a fine Navy pilot, but I just dont believe he has the strategeragic knowledge to lead a fight against Mars.". Dictator Bush went on to say " Besides he has to stay at Top Gun and teach our boys flying skills such as catfighting and keg-rolls".

At this juncture the press conference ended abruptly as Condoleezza Rice, known as 'hubba-hubba' to our officers in black, stood up and slapped the holy shit out of Mr. Bush. stuck a dunce cap on him, and sat him in the corner.

Further details on the invasion as we get them. Till then goodnight from the goulog.

Tongue  Done tongue in cheek....came to me in the shower..and no I did'nt fall and hit my head biggrin[/url]

I'd be excited if this was going to be a movie actually based on the book. But it's just going to be another modern day alien invasion movie. Nothing special there.

Tripod machines with heat cannons burning down 1890s London? That would be worth seeing on the big screen. This movie, I have little hope for.

EDIT: Also, judging by the poster, this movie is more a remake of the 1940s flick. The hand with three fingers is from the movie. In the book, the aliens were octopus-like lumps with lots of tentacles.

Most people came out of Schindler's List crying. I didn't think Saving Private Ryan had a happy or emotionally pleasing ending either.

Actually the poster looks alot like the image they used to show at the end of the opening credits of the TV series.  However, I liked the TV series, loved the movie, radio drama and the book.  Add Spielberg inot the mix and I'm pretty sure I am going to love this movie too biggrin

Teaser trailer is out now.  Reminded me of Close Encounters more than ID4, which to me is a good sign.

Teaser Trailer Link.

Same as above, really, but enjoy nonetheless. I like the teaser, but I'll like it even more if it makes it into the movie. smile

I do hope they do go more Close Encounters style.  After finishing HL2 I was thinking about this movie as I was walking outside.  It was a grey and overcast day and my view was just brick 2 story college apartment buildings and I thought how damn scary it would be to see one of those tripod things in the distance.  The reason was because the setting was just so mundane and every day.  If the ships in the film were made to look real and the extraneous fx were kept to a minimum it could be pretty frightening which would be good in my book.

Okay, the trailer got to me. Using an updated take on the opening paragraph of the novel, and the literary sort of typeface they're employing for the logo, I'll admit that it's gave me shivers.

I'm no longer vowing to hate this movie.

But I still don't know if I'll like it.

I think I'll reread the book. It's public domain, so it's free on the Web. Yay.
