Looking at the videos, the 1st one on bottom doesn't look anything like the original....
The 2nd one sort of looks like it, but you can see the actual "worms" and even with multiple worms moving, there is no "single muscle-like" contraction...

I was waiting for it to crack open and hatch something.....

or just ooze towards the camera and digest it and get bigger until it reaches the drive-in......

The problem is that there are 2 separate solutions.. #1 requires fire, #2 requires ice..... Choose your own adventure...

Something I learned while working in NC is that portions of the state are claimed to have the greatest diversity of flora in all of the US. I was surprised by that because I've hiked on Kaua'i and Maui and there's definitely lots of variety in areas there. Once I hiked around some in my off hours though I could see why the claim was true. Often where there's great diversity in flora there's equivalent diversity in fauna. My guess is this is just a creature that hasn't been seen much or documented before.

Either that, or someone flushed something they shouldn't have down the toilet.  paranoid

That video was released weeks ago and the whole thing already explained, as Sparhawk link points out.  Those are worm colonies reacting to the light from the camera.  Those sewer pipes are so old they have cracks in them and it allows the worms to get inside.

Here's another story about the whole thing: http://www.news14.com/content/top_stories/611427/raleigh--sewer-creature--surprises-city-officials/Default.aspx

Bah...experts... what do they know.... Besides I prefer the whole alien life form thing, makes the story more interesting... (But not as furry as I remember)
