as a limited series.  it's going to be worked on with Dreamworks TV, and will most like be shopped to a cable channel.

This is coming to CBS in Summer 2013 as a 13-episode series.

I liked the idea of the book and it started off well enough but quickly went downhill when the town started falling apart. He foucsed the story on the nutty people in the town, which isn't compelling, rather than where the dome came from or what it was. I tried to stick with it but it just continued to go in the wrong direction and I've already read the town falling apart thing from King a bunch of times before - and better. So bowed out rather than slug through it anymore.

But I'll probably try and catch this and see if I can sit through it. But then again the King stories to TV movies haven't been all that great. Couldn't even make it through an hour of Bag of Bones.

It looks like the series is going to be rather different from the book.  Actually, from the preview, it kind of looks like they took some stuff directly from the book, while all some characters have in common with their book counterparts is their names.  At least two characters who die at the beginning of the book are alive and well in the trailer, Big Jim is barely even pudgy, Rusty Everett is a young firefighter trapped outside the dome, and Phil Bushey is the sober DJ of a rock music radio station.  As long as the series is good, I don't mind the changes, but I am concerned that they plan to turn this into a series if it's successful.  It seems it would be difficult to do a proper conclusion to the miniseries if they have to plan for the future.

aye, I actually hated the book as well and dropped it about halfway when pretty much everyone was being shitty persons. I just didn't feel any reason to go on reading it.

The second trailer shows the funnier aspects of having a dome cover your town.

Hmmmm.

In. Tentatively. Looks like a silly premise, but at least it's something different -- kind of straddling science fiction and the supernatural. I'm interested enough to see where they go with it.

Meh.  Unless they get some high caliber writers on the show, this one is going to peter out pretty quickly.

I liked it!  But then again I'm pretty desperate for something amusing to watch in the summer.  The dome premise is fairly interesting but the townspeople are what should make the show work.  The cast is fun for genre fans.  You've got a leftover vampire from Twilight, lead witch from The Secret Circle, cutie boy from Supernatural, creepy cop lady from Cult... AND the LAWNMOWER MAN!  It's B-cast central lol.

10:00pm seems kind of a bad hour to debut but I commend CBS for having a reasonably hot sex scene and some fairly gross effects!

I'm hoping maybe they rebroadcast the pilot this weekend or something. I read it got terrific ratings last night (13 something) but really you have to see how weeks 2,3,4 go to see if that's just a nice debut or something lasting.

But what if it DID change the book?
What if you pulled down your copy of The Dome from the shelf, and the text had changed to match CBS's TV show? What if all your Superman comics from years ago changed to match David Goyer's screenplay in Man of Steel?

That's a really lame, derivative idea (riffing on some Twilight Zone episodes, Steve's own "Word Processor of the Gods" short story, and a Richard Matheson short story I've read) for a short story that Stevie himself should write!  icon_smile

I liked it, especially compared to all of the reality programming that seems to dominate prime time tv in the summer.  I appreciate original, scripted programming these days.  I don't usually get hung up too much on show writing, unless it's just awful.

It's too early to tell if the cast and story will work, but I'm sucked in enough to be looking forward to episode 2.

I didn't know Brian K. Vaughan was involved in the writing of the show. I didn't bother recording it on DVD afterall so hopefully it makes it to Netflix at some point as I'd like to take a peek.

But the book was terrible so wouldn't pull that down from my shelf again.

Pilot caught enough of my attention to give episode 2 a look.

Amazon Prime (Instant) will be carrying the show as well for anyone else who has cut cable.

agreed.

one of the dumbest mis-steps King has ever taken.  I was pretty much thinking WTF and could easily see it be the moment a lot of people dropped the book.

I finally got to see the first episode and enjoyed it much more than I thought I would. I thought some of the changes from the book were really good and I hope the rest of the series plays out this well.

man why does all Stephen King book to tv shows turn out bad.  The acting is horrible.  The concept is interesting, but I'm not sure I can take the acting much more.

I'm glad to see that it will be coming back, as the show has been getting better every week.  They're ramping up the action nicely and they're developing the characters better (especially Big Jim, who is a much more interesting character here than in the book).

Hope this is the right thread for this (I tried), I have really enjoyed this so far, but I'm a sucker for sci fi.   I agree the acting is sometimes hit or miss, but for the most part I like it.

I was happy to see Big Jm as the actor from Breaking Bad, which I love.

Why does Stephen King always take at least one character in every one of his stories and turn them homicidal before the first half of the damn story is even over?   It always just feels forced.

I watch this the same way I watch Castle:  it's on in the background while I surf the web on my iPad from the couch.

I read an interview where Stephen King said he was jealous of GRR Martin and Game of Thrones, which was one of the reasons he decided to write for Under the Dome.

Unfortunately it appears his idea of copying GRRM is to randomly kill off characters for no apparent reason.  Hooray!

I'd love to see Stephen King write a Mobster story. At least then the killings would make sense.  icon_lol

I'm not even spending any time with the second season. They lost me during the finale last season.
