Plus with the popularity from Castle, Fillion has a much larger and varied fan based than just from his Firefly/Serenity days.  I think he can carry a video game movie. Honestly, game movies tend to bomb no matter what so Fillion may be a boost to this thing,  Marky Mark?  Uh  no thanks, he already ruined one of my favorite books by doing a movie of it.

not to mention max payne was pretty bad. (what book are you talking about?)

Nathan Fillion would of been so much better.

I hate to burst people's bubble.. but Nathan Fillion ain't gonna get this role.. because Nathan Fillion ain't a movie star. No studio will spend upwards of a 100 mill to have a movie carried by Nathan Fillion. He's a TV star.

Watch Serenity  icon_wink

And Slither. Nathan Fillion has carried movies before, and he's certainly got the fanbase to be able to carry bigger ones.

Ah yes, Slither and Serenity. Box office giants slywink.

I hope Fillion does get the role, but people need to stop thinking that he's a big name. He's not. He's a cult star and the likelihood of him getting the lead in a blockbuster movie is pretty small.

Slither, I think a friend of mine bought me a copy of that a couple of years ago.  it was one of those awkward gift moments, where you have to act pleased but know it'll be exchanged later on.

Im referring to the movie Shooter.  It was loosely based on a great book call Point of Impact, by Stephen Hunter.  The movie proceeded to destroy everything that was great about the book.

ooooh. Im just glad that Shooter wasnt based off the book Shooter and had Marky Mark star in it. That wouldve been a really bad thing.

It's not an issue with Fillion's ability to carry the movie, it's an issue with his lack of box office track record.

an interview with David O. Russel:

http://www.empireonline.com/interviews/interview.asp?IID=1179

the important bits:

Quote
What is the situation with your Uncharted movie script? It seems such a natural game to turn into a movie…
The game is very cinematic; there’s no question about it. That’s what I’m working on real hard and I’m writing it as we speak and I’m really excited to make it. I’d love Mark to be in it, I’d love Bob De Niro to be in it; I love the idea of growing them into a cinematic family; I think that’s a really cool idea, but… I guess you’ll have to wait until you see the script.

What thoughts do you have about the love interest, Elena?
Ah, Elena. I’ve cultivated her quite a bit and I think I’ve added a lot of dimension to her so that’s all I’m going to say. I love the woman characters and the more robust they are, the more robust the movie.

From watching The Fighter, we would love Amy Adams to play Elena…
Oh I would love that too, I love Amy. I also love Scarlett Johansson; there’s a lot of great actors I think might suit. Hopefully, we’ll see how it works out with everybody who are being scoped to do that role…

And he still maintains the family thing: "Really intense action and really intense family dynamics on a global stage."  Will be interesting to see that full interview when it is posted, but I'm guessing it will be more of the same.

I still don't understand why they have such a hard time sticking to the basics of the game series.  If you're just going to make it completely different why license the game in the first place?

I'm not sure I understand his argument correctly, but he seems to indicate that other game-to-movie conversions fail because they stick too close to the source material. Uh, they fail because they do exactly what you do, Mr Russel. The director tries to make it his own instead of treating the property with respect.

And he apparently doesn't even know who Nathan Fillion is. Way to pay attention to the wishes of the fans.

Russel quits.  no details, but hopefully it's something like 'I want to maintain my crediibility, and with Wahlberg as Drake I can't.'

Or maybe it was like, "I want Drake's dad and crazy uncle" and the studio was like "the fans will hate that" and he walked. Bring in Spielberg!

Either way, we win! Even if that means no Uncharted movie.

it'll end up being Uwe Boll with Jason Statham as Nate, Kristina Lokken as Elena with Ben Kingsley as Sully, who is now also Nate's father, Kevin J. O'Connor as Eddy, Christian Slater as Roman and Lou Diamond Phillips as Navarro (who is also Nate's Uncle).
