Blue Vampires With Guns Rejoice, Underworld Is Getting A Total Reboot

Quote
The Underworld movie franchise is getting a reboot. Because vampires doing flips in leather catsuits sell movie tickets, dammit.

THR is reporting that Lakeshore Entertainment is going to reboot the entire Underworld vampire franchise. Probably because they've run out of stories for Kate Beckinsale to roundhouse through while shooting silver bullets in a blue filter. Alas.

The films shall start all over under the pen of Cory Goodman, who wrote the 2011 movie Priest, which felt a lot like an Underworld movie in the amount of action to storyline ratio. No doubt the reboot is an attempt to make money off the Underworld name, but I'm curious if people will want anyone but Beckinsale to take on the role of vampire Selene, as she was pretty bad ass. We shall see.

The Underworld series is one of my guilty pleasures. I love them.

So admittedly when I read this my reaction was not "another reboot, this sucks."

It was - "new Underworld movie, YAY!!!!!!"  icon_biggrin

I've been charting the movie reboot trends and if my figures are correct, next year we'll see a reboot come so quickly it will predate the original film.

I thought the 1st film was OK, enjoyed the 2nd more -somehow it seemed to work better in a dark, medieval setting- and absolutely detested the 3rd. I almost feel a sense of shame that the 3rd was filmed in my city - almost.

I do think the premise of the films is good; if they can up the quality with a reboot, I'd be interested.

Movies were a fun idea.  Unfortunately they handed them to Len Wiseman.  The poor man's Zack Snyder.

I love the Underworld flicks, and love Kate Beckinsale.  Will be tough to find a replacement.  Maybe Chloe Grace Moretz, she can kick ass (pun intended) and has played a vampire before.

Oh I hope not.  She looks way too young.  Maybe a side-kick or something, but they need someone with a little more presence I think.

I didn't really care for these movies, but I tend to think vampires and werewolves feel pretty dumb in most movies.  The only reason to watch Underworld was Kate Beckinsale.

I would be interested if they rebooted it more as a serious drama instead of a matrix inspired action movie…

About a 10% chance of that happening though.

Hollywood should do a movie about a producer who wants to a movie about Hollywood wanting to do reboots of every movie.  retard

Sort of like Terms of Endearment or perhaps Fried Green Tomatoes...but with vampires and werewolves?  I could see that working.

I said drama, not chick flick.  Tongue

I was thinking more along the lines of the White Wolf/World of Darkness setting.  Less action, more politics, mystery and intrigue.
