My girlfriend and I are seriously considering a trip to Vancouver next month and neither of us have been there.  For those of you who have been to Vancouver, do you have a recommendation as to where we should stay?  Should we stay all six days in Vancouver, or should we spend a day or two somewhere near Vancouver?  Any advice is greatly appreciated.

Stanley Park and the Vancouver aquarium are both very nice.  If you have the time, Whale watching tours from the harbour are also enjoyable afternoons - some research required into how sucessful you'll be at this time of year.

Robson Street downtown is a long, walkable shopping / and eating strip.  It's very metropolitan, not super crowded or noisy but with nice shops and plenty of good places to eat.

Where to stay - I've always stayed downtown when there on business, but Whistler is close by and is supposed to be absolutely gorgeous.

Victoria is beautiful and tends to have less rain. Take a ferry over. Tongue
