Click for teh robot goodness.

I'm a slave to Michael Bay for whatever reason and his fetishistic lust for hot cars and explosions is tailor made for a Transformers movie, IMO. This could be quite fun.

And the software you have to install is apparently only a Java app that gets nuked once you close the window. I used it and didn't see any issues afterwards. And it looked damn good on my laptop's 1440x900 screen.  icon_biggrin

That looks hot.  Of course the trailer for ID4 kicked all kinds of butt too.

What's it supposed to be rated? PG-13? Should be R!  So that Optimus can really kick some butt.

Just showed this to My Fair Lady. She snickered when I told her it was about giant robots but after seeing this and knowing it's from Michael Bay she is all over it. Hell yeah. thumbsup

I want to be excited about this, but EVERYTHING I've seen far far has looked pretty meh.  I don't really have much love for Michael Bay, either.

Seriously, the redesign of the 'bots is overly wrought and look more like Bionicles than Transformers.

The trailer?  crappy editing, weak soundtrack.  Doesn't really alleviate my fears....

I throw my chips in with th'FOOL.  It may make for a half-decent popcorn flick, but so far it doesn't look like one for the ages.

It kind of reminds me of Godzilla '98.  Which was shit.

That holds the dubious position as one of only three films I actively was ready to walk out on, consequences be damned. "The Thin Red Line" I actually stood up in and was about to storm out but was stopped by Fireball who pointed out that if something cool happened in the final 20 minutes then we'd have to suffer all over again. The other one was Gosford Park but since it was the first date with Frogs Honey I felt awkward about suggesting we leave so I sat still and suffered.

Man, I was just thinking about that screening today! In that theater with the scattered other reviewers, and desperately grabbing your arm -- "If we walk out of here and then people go on about how awesome the last 30 minutes is, we'll have to sit through this damn thing again!" And then that one character died, and you knew the blasted film had to be over soon. Man, good times. Good times.

The decepticons looked weak, what we could get of Optimus looked okay. I just don't understand why he can't be a freaking Peterbilt truck. I have a strong feeling that this movie will suck ass and in no way live up to anyone's expectations.

He is a Peterbilt truck for the movie, isn't he?  They wanted the biggest truck they could find, and that was it.

Also, part of it is getting the rights to use the vehicles.  I believe that's part of the reason why some of the vehicles aren't exactly the same from the original TV show.

The Rock seemed like a wasteland of missed opportunities.  It developed so much of the story... then blew it all up without doing anything about it or the ideas it raised.

...comedy.

As to the Transformers movie...Guess I'm the wrong generation although the trailer looked ok. Come to think of it, I kinda like these comic book movies (Transformers was a comic book? Or a TV cartoon?) so I might give it a look.

I think the trailer looks ok.  Its nice that at least some of the old voice actors have returned.  It saddens me a bit to know they changed the robots quite a bit.  I would have like to have seen something similar to the old ones.  Its also very strange, to me, that Germany  is being jerks about Bumble Bee, and nothing with 'violence' can use a Volkswagen Bug.

I HOPe its going to be good.  I think michael Bay does alright action movies, so I hope this one will at least be ALRIGHT.

Yeah, I'm a little dissappointed in the "car" mode so far.  I mean Prime is a long nose PB now, instead of a COE Freighliner.  Bumblebee is a 2009 Camaro, instead of a 60's VW Bug, Scorpinox doesn't look anything like a damn scorpion to me and I haven't see the others yet, other than the decepticon cop car, heli and Starscream.  I was reading something online somewhere about the producers saying this one gonna be a bad ass movie, (which it may or may not be), and there were going to be so many sequels after this one.  I AM going to see this July 4 and I do hope it's gonna be good, but I'm having doubts this early, after seeing all the trailers and reviews so far....   Roll Eyes

I saw the trailer, and was very disappointed.

Here is why: it seems the plot is going with "hostile alien invasion seeking to rule the Earth".  But that totally doesn't fit into the concept of Transformers.  You know... "Robots in disguise", and all that?

I mean hell, if you are going to take over the planet by force, why bother turning into something else?  Why not just be a giant, flying robot, 24/7?  Isn't the purpose of being a Transformer to blend in, be undetectable, to go covert?

Apparently, rumor has it they're just a few days away from finalizing the casting for Megatron's voice.

It's down to:

The original voice actor, Frank Welker.

Or...

Hugo Weaving

Actually, the "hostile alien invasion seeking to rule the Earth" was true in the original cartoon, but not of all Transformers, just the Decepticons.  The Decepticons came to dominate and rule Earth, while the Autobots attempted to save mankind.  The film follows this same premise, which is made clear by the text in the most recent teaser trailer.  "Some came to defend us.  Most will come to destroy us."

This follows with the original cartoon premise, sans energon cubes of course.

The Decepticons only came to Earth because they wanted a part in wherever the Autobots were headed from Cybertron.  They crashed on Earth by accident, and even then the Decepticons didn't want to rule earth--they just wanted to harvest all of our abundant energy and get back to Cybertron with it.

exactly...the Decepticons want to steal all the earth energy resources and take it back to cybertron to fuel themselves in the fight to rule their home world.  they really couldn't care much less what happens on earth.

That still fits with the defend us/destroy us theme, at least from the human perspective.  If you take all of earth's energy resources, you are in essence destroying earth.  "Dominate and rule" is incorrect (a little hazy on my Transformers mythos), but the film's reference to transformers coming to destroy earth is relatively accurate when you look at what stealing all of earth's resources would do to mankind.

But that still shows my point: what the trailer reveals is the exact opposite of "Robots in Disguise".

It's more like "Robots coming to kick your ass, and they aren't in disguise, because they don't give two turds if you know they are robots or not".

Exactly.

And I really hope they don't go with Hugo Weaving.  He has such an annoyingly limited acting range.
