Never read the comics, only grew up with the G1 animated series.  Regardless, I have the utmost faith in Michael Bay's ability to dumb down a movie to groundbreaking levels.  Despite believing Revenge of the Fallen to be the pinnacle of idiocy, I am sure he will once again outdo himself in a way only he can.  What's worse is I will probably watch it.   icon_redface

I'm a bit more optimistic than that, particularly since Michael Bay actually has publicly said that he's going to cut down on the silliness and make a darker, more serious movie.

i guess now its official..Transformers II was pants, but Michael Bay has an excuse,The Writers Strike

http://movies.msn.com/movies/article.aspx?news=633946&gt1=28101

Quote
Moviemaker Michael Bay has accepted his "Transformers" sequel was "c**p," insisting the 2007-2008 writers strike turned the film into a rushed mess.

Bay is back in the director's chair for the third "Transformers" film, "Dark of the Moon," and he insists that it's a must-see movie, whereas his last effort was not.

He tells Britain's Empire film magazine, "We made some mistakes... When I look back at it, that was c**p. The writers' strike was coming hard and fast. It was just terrible to do a movie where you've got to have a story in three weeks.

Shia agrees
Quote
"We got lost. We tried to get bigger. It's what happens to sequels. It's like, how do you top the first one? You've got to go bigger.

"Mike went so big that it became too big, and I think you lost the anchor of the movie... You lost a bit of the relationships. Unless you have those relationships, then the movie doesn't matter. Then it's just a bunch of robots fighting each other."

I am not following. I am far from an Oscar hound - I like movies for what they are. I was entertained by Transformers 2 - plain and simple.
It answered some questions and made sense to me.

Colour me different I guess.

The story and the effects were decent enough (in my opinion. I've heard a lot of criticism of the whole resurrection thing, but I don't see that as problematic). It's the juvenile humor and borderline racism that rubs people the wrong way. Supposedly Transformers 3 will have neither.

This, and the resurrection thing are the reasons I hated the second movie. If they can leave them out, or at least keep the humor at the level of the first one, I'll be happy.

A bit of a return to things of past as Leonard Nimoy will do voice honors again as the voice of the transformer Sentinal Prime. For those who aren't aware, Nimoy did the voice of Galvatron in the 1986 animated film. As well, Michael Bay claims to have heard his critics and promises the 3rd film will have a better script.
Quote
The director also says he's heard the criticism of his previous two Transformers movies and has made efforts this time to bring more life to his creations.

"The robots have more character in this movie. Much more," he says. "You really understand their struggle, on both sides actually."

I'm somewhat optimistic this may well be a decent entry in the series. Then again, I liked Bay's 1st Transformer enough to buy the DVD - the 2nd on the other hand was IMO very craptastic.

We've been asked not to go through all the footage beat-for-beat, but honestly, I don't think I could even if I tried.  The footage was that overstuffed with imagery.

Oh good, so I'll have no idea what the fuck is going on in this one either.

Personally, I love the look of Shockwave. This looks absolutely saturated with insanity which is great... until it numbs you around the end of hour one and you still have another 1.5 hrs to go. If they actually have a descent script (snicker) then it could be good. After part two, I'm not even voicing cautious optimism until I see it.

I thought the trailer looked interesting.  I will more than likely go to the theaters and see it only because i was one of those kids with the transformers #1 comic when it came out way back when.  2 was such a disappointment.  Hopefully all the talk about 3 being a completely different animal is true.

Kind of browsing around SA I ran into the DOTM thread and found some awesome news.

The Twins are back, because, you know they were so awesome the first time. And Bay is making fun of Nascar fans! Apparently Transformers.net found the new toy line coming out and it includes 3 new toys which have been dubbed the bascar trio:

Leadfoot choice quote

Quote
It sure is convenient that Leadfoot's toy conspicuously covers up those giant Target logos, isn't it? Much easier to sell toys at Walmart that way.
Leadfoot appears to have a "beard" and a "beer gut," making him appear much like a stereotypical NASCAR fan.

Roadbuster

Quote
Roadbuster appears to have "sunglasses", a "baseball cap" and a "goatee," making him resemble a stereotypical NASCAR fan. Or Dale Earnhardt Jr.

Topspin

Quote
Topspin's robot mode features "sunglasses", a bushy "beard" and a "mullet", making him resemble a stereotypical NASCAR fan.

Oh Michael Bay

I'm going to need a citation for that one, particularly since Michael Bay specifically said that this movie wouldn't have the Twins.

Sounds like speculation based on just seeing two cars to me. Here's a more relevant article, from the 15th of April: http://www.comingsoon.net/news/movienews.php?id=76485

The interesting parts are

Quote
Don't expect the "twins" from "Revenge of the Fallen," that's for certain.

followed by

Quote
"There are two small characters. They start off a bit goofy, but they have a huge comeback. One of them is a new character."

So it sounds like either just one of the twins is back, or none. In their place is a different duo (with maybe one of the old twins in reimagined form) that is less silly and has a more important role to play in the plot.

You know, I'd love to see a transformers movie that went the way of the Batman series, and got all dark and lost the humor. It would be a crazy movie!

Right now, the Transformers movies feels like they are aiming a bit everywhere to see if someone likes what it does, without focus. Well, at least the 1˝ transformers movies I've seen.

Trailer looks interesting though

Apparently, Paramount has sent out techs to tweak and adjust the 3D projector for maximum effect. We'll see.
