Well, at least Michael Bay isn't directing it... The trailer doesn't show too much shaky-cam or quick cuts. so that's two more pluses.

I notice that Disney is returning to many classic franchises such as Tron and The Black Hole. The one thing that would be really difficult to do would be converting what made the originals special in all these special effects. The original Tron had some of the best special effects of its day, but it was also kind of low key in a way. I hope they don't overdo it with the special effects even though that statement may seem silly.

Translation for the idiots among us? I'm assuming that it's a binary representation of the countdown. Knowing that, I still can't figure out how long until release.

Well, the right is seconds, but a day, hour, minute, second countdown makes no sense, since it's due for a December release.
If the left were months at 8, and the next were days, that would put it on November 26th, the day after Thanksgiving, but IMDB has a 12/17 release for the US.

Tron was probably my absolute favorite film as a kid (hell, even today). That trailer looks F-ing unbelievable. I just about fell over when they showed Flynn's. I'm about to load up Tron in my DVD changer and I've got an important oral exam for physics tomorrow morning. I can say with great certainty that in anticipation I'll be watching Tron this weekend. And probably 100 more times until Legacy.

I kind of miss the washed out look of everyone in the original. It really separated the computer world from the real world. The primitive CG really helped with that. The new one makes it look like it's just another action movie with everyone in neon-lined tights. I want to be excited for it, but the new look really isn't working for me.
I think what I'd have preferred is something along the lines of the game Tron 2.0.

I wonder how they lit everyone in the first movie? wow 28 years ago. Im old...and from the looks of the actors so are they. Bruce and Jeff have really aged Those days were so cool back then. I was telling the wife how much cooler the first Tron was because computers were pretty rare and the graphics they used were so cutting edge back then. Now everyone has a computer and has seen cg graphics. Just not the same. I just told the wife if I ever win a lottery I'm building me a arcade addon for the house with ALL the classics in it. Tron discs were so holographically cool back then. I used to know a guy that programmed that game. Kinda a strange personality but cool. No telling how many tokens I dropped in Tron as a kid. I loved the discs and light cycles but sucked at the rest. Of course I would name my room Flynn's

I was telling the wife how much cooler the first Tron was because computers were pretty rare and the graphics they used were so cutting edge back then. Now everyone has a computer and has seen cg graphics. Just not the same. Plus the movie was by a transgendered composer. How forward thinking is that? Or maybe just odd. I kind of miss the washed out look of everyone in the original. It really separated the computer world from the real world. The primitive CG really helped with that. The new one makes it look like it's just another action movie with everyone in neon-lined tights. I want to be excited for it, but the new look really isn't working for me.

I have to agree a little bit. It does kind of feel like just another action-movie place. They have some Tron iconography in there, but nothing that makes you feel like you're in a program. I wondered how they'd address this, but I don't know that there's a way. You could, of course, do one of those cel-shaded type animated films where everyone is filmed and then it's changed to animation (proto-rotoscoping?), but it probably wouldn't be as accessible then. Especially given that most of the movie would be like that. Overall, though, I can get over that little hangup if the movie's good. And it looks cool. May have to pull out the original for the daughter this weekend, but I have a hunch it'll be tough to sit through.

For you, or your daughter? In my opinion Tron has aged just fine and still holds up today. Sure, the computer programming featured in the film is long outdated, but the special effects were well beyond their time, the sound is fantastic, the acting by Bridges is up to par with what we've seen he can do even today, and the storyline is a blast. But, if you're referring to your daughter, I can certainly understand as my wife continues to roll her eyes at me when I suggest that we watch Tron. She has zero interest in it and doesn't share any of my enthusiasm.

While laying Tron 2.0 years ago I was quite excited to sit down and watch the DVD of Tron for the first time in many years. Unfortunately it didn't hold up for me at all. IIRC I was pretty bored through much of it. Maybe I'll try again sometime before Tron Legacy.
