Say a little prayer for those of us in the Southeast part of the country.  We're all getting absolutely hammered.  I'm in Chattanooga (border of Northern GA, Northern AL & TN).

I wish everyone the best, this is a doozy...

I first heard about this when Roy Oswalt took an indefinite leave of absence from the Phillies today to be with his family following an "outbreak" of tornadoes in Mississippi.  A year ago a tornado hit his parents' home so he's understandably concerned.

Good luck and stay safe.

Yeah... Talk about amazing.

"Based on the videos from various angles, I am willing to call this the most incredible tornado I have ever seen." - that line was uttered from somebody who chases and films tornadoes for a living about that link.

Talk about having balls of steel just filming something like that so closely.

Think it's more how stupid he is for staying that close to such a giant tornado.

I've been resisting the urge to post that exact comment, and finally came in here to do it.

I'm here and ok.  All of my family members that live here are ok.  Day 3 without power in Huntsville.  This is the first time I've gotten to use my cell to get online to post anything...  Verizon finally got back up.  I know some gas stations are open throughout all of north Alabama but with 2-3 hour wait lines!  I've heard we got emergency crews from all surrounding states.  Huntsville and Crestwood hospital both have power.  I work for Huntsville Utilities and we've been here for the last 2 days trying to do whatever we can.  I work for the Gas dept so not much I can do.  I know our electric guys are running constant rotating 12 hours shifts!  Don't know about other counties, but there's a dusk till dawn curfue in Madison county.  I finally got to access some news about the damage in other counties on my phone this morning.  I'll try to get back on here later and update anything if needed.

wow, a fellow Huntsvillian. We got our power back Sunday night in Hazel Green. Thanks for the hard work. Been out helping friends cut up trees. Kids finally went back to school today but Marshall Space Flight Center still doesn't have all it's power so I'm off one more day.

I'm in awe at the condition that tornado left well seasoned decidious trees in. It reminds me of pictures of Vietnam jungle after extremely heavy arc-light bombing runs. The sheer force of that twister just seems unbelievable to me. Hope no GT'ers were in its path, or anywhere close to it.

Nope, nor can I put that straw through a tree. Just saying, to me, there are more impressive feats that tornados pull off.

Joplin is about an hour away from where I am. I work for a university here, and every time I see a forwarding address of Joplin (or just listen to the radio) I get a bit of a chill.

We were under watches several times, but, didn't get anything more than high winds and thunderstorms.

I know Smurff went through a few warnings as well, he lives a couple hours north of here.

While I've never actually seen a tornado, one day back in I believe 1988 here in Virginia, I was on my way to my evening bowling league (ah the glory days...) after work, and I did in fact see a weaker cyclone of sorts forming in the dark, cloudy skies ahead of me on my route to the bowling alley. That whole, scary, whirlpool formation stuff.

I was transfixed for a minute and then, "Wow... #$*# the bowling league! I'm going home!" I detoured home. We had some nasty thunderstorms then but it didn't get too bad -- I don't think it fully formed or got close enough to the ground to cause damage. My bowling team thought I was a wimp of course.  icon_razz

My late father was born in Kansas City, MO in 1922. I told my brother he and I should still find a way to visit there some day... just NOT in tornado season.  paranoid
