NY Daily News

Quote
Paramount Pictures is feeling the need for speed again.

According to Vulture, the studio has officially has made offers to producer Jerry Bruckheimer ("Pirates of the Caribbean") and director Tony Scott ("The Taking of Pelham 123") to develop a sequel to 1986's "Top Gun."

Christopher McQuarrie will pen the script and Tom Cruise is slated to return, albeit in limited capacity, as Maverick.
...
"Top Gun 2" has been one of the classic long-rumored sequels, but Bruckheimer only told MTV this past July that talks for the film were beginning to get serious. The problem would be setting the story in an atmosphere that focuses less and less on the dogfights that defined the original film, also directed by Scott.

"The aviation community has completely changed since we made the movie a long time ago," Bruckheimer told MTV. "So we have to find a way in and how to incorporate the Maverick character into it."

I do not endorse hitting up google for the terms "hot wingman".

Pretty sure the plot will be that goose's son has waiting his whole life for vengeance for mavericks role in his dads death.

Kelly mcgillis will reprise her role only as mavericks grandmom.

Now that the Cold War is over, maybe they can afford to lease some real Russian-made fighters for the bad guys instead of old US fighters with a bad paint job.

Or maybe Tom Cruise will continue his Maverick role as an aging pilot reliving his glory days as he pilots a Predator drone over Afghanistan.

they hired a new writer, Peter Craig, who wrote The Town.  looks like they're throwing out everything scriptwise and starting from scratch.

Perhaps Tom Cruise and Val Kilmer will be the Manhattan project ordinance in a Top Gun prequel.

I'll let you guess who's Fat Man, and who's Little Boy.

Top Gun 2 now dead

Top Gun 3D however,is on the cards

Quote
The New York Times reports that the sequel to Top Gun "has fallen apart." Earlier this year, Paramount hired Peter Craig (The Town) to pen Top Gun 2; but after the suicide of Tony Scott, who directed the first film, it appears the project has come to a halt. The studio is now left with a 3-D remaster of the first film, which was partly made to build buzz for a sequel. Paramount is trying to figure out a way to release the updated version while remaining respectful to Scott. Things will probably work out, so get ready to see a volleyball spiked right at your face.

The Simpsons just had The Itchy and Scratchy Movie in 3D this past weekend.

The tag was something like:

Top Drone?  The film would focus on a group of cagey joystick jocks as they compete for top honors at the Drone, Remote Operator Course.  The latter half of the film follows them in action in real hot spots, dealing with the rigors of flying remote combat sorties from their air conditioned trailer.  Lots of interpersonal drama inside the trailer, with some fun and hijinx in the camp.
