I gotta admit, this was my FAVORITE thread on GG...

Somebody brought up the argument of people who put the toliet roll with the paper going over the roll as opposed to under.  And at the time, I really had no idea what I preferred.

But honestly, now,  I get as mad as a hatter when I pull on that paper from under the roll and it just rolls and rolls and rolls on forever.

SO I, *need*, my paper to go OVER the tube.  It's much easier to rip off without taking 10 yards of TP not to mention it looks more neat, in my opinion.

What do you prefer?

Technically, I keep the roll in the drawer next to the toilet, because the cats go apeshit on toilet paper.  If I had it on the roller, it would be in the "under" position, because it's more difficult for the cats to unroll it that way.

I learned my lesson the hard way, as I always used the "over" position until the cats completely unrolled the roll onto the floor.

Twice.

I remember this thread leading to a great metalhead story involving bowels, and messes.

Also, I remember bringing up the questions, 1ply or 2, and then I think someone took it even further with bunching or folding...

Usually keep the toilet paper behind the toilet or on the counter next to it.  With two little boys, one potty training, the bathroom seems to be in a constant state of flux, so worrying about the toilet paper is the last thing we do smile.

Over is the only way...there's no good reason to do otherwise, even if you have cats at home slywink

as for the rest of Tebunker's questions, it's 2-ply quilted for me and i fold...bunching is inefficient.

Exactly.  I always have it over, but when I had a cat, I learned that same lesson.

I've only seen typed responses to over...but the voting is (currently) at 18-5.  So there are some people here who do the under method.

COME OUT, HEATHENS, explain yourself!

I am an under person, for a few reasons.

1. It pisses off my wife to no end.

2. A real man has no problem getting a clean tear when the roll is under without it unravelling.

3.With over I am always trying to find the end and it is always somewhere on the back of the roll.  With under, there is always 1 sheet hanging free for me to grab hold of.

2-Ply, use much less this way.

Folded and Bunched depending on the situation, both are useful.

Oooh paper towels - I gotta go with over with that as well.  I mean, it seems as though when it's under and I go for a "rip", I sometimes end up NOT ripping off what I wanted but unrolling a whole bunch of it.

How about a response for "who cares?".  I never understood why people made a big deal about this.  The only issue for me is if I reach for it and it's not there!

OVER!

The people that do it under, I swear these are the same people that populate this Earth with the express purpose of pissing me off.

This is the kind of thing that just adds up over time and then you see the me on the local news after my shooting rampage and people say, "He was a nice guy, we never saw it coming."  And there's some joker in the audience snickering.

I'm on to you!!!

Under for me.

The reason is looks, with the edge hanging back behind the roll, you can't see it.   So if you look at the TP it looks like a perfectly smooth roll.   If it hangs over, then you can see the torn edge and if someone didn't get a clean cut it's a ragged torn edge which is even worse looking.

Those that have problems with it unrolling are lacking in proper technique.  Of course if you yank straight down it's going to roll like crazy and unravel.

What you do is pull horizontally and roll it around your fingers with a twirl of the wrist, then when you have enough you use the palm of your wrist twirl hand to stop the roll, and tug with your fingers- instant cut with no movement of the roll.  If you leverage your fingers just right you can get it to break at the back of the roll and the edge is out of view.
