So I'm contemplating getting a TiVo, and I see the factory renewed units on the TiVo web site. They have the 80 meg units for $99 after rebate and they have a full warranty (linky). Can anyone think of a good reason to NOT get a renewed unit?

Also, I'm undecided on going monthly or lifetime. TiVo experts: please bestow your wisdom on me as to which you think is the way to go and why.

Muchas gracias!!

It depends on how long you plan on keeping the Tivo unit.  Because lifetime is tied to the unit itself, you'll need to have the unit 2 years in order for the lifetime subscription to be cost effective.  If you plan on grabbing a 140 hour one down the road when they get cheaper, then I would go with the monthly.

The factory refurbished units seem to be okay.  I know someone who has one and it has worked out fine, so I see no real reason to avoid it.

Like dangerballs said, if you are not a technology junkie, go for the lifetime subscription.

It's not the years, it's the mileage.

When Mrs. Lildrgn says, "We should've gotten the lifetime subscription," you know what time it is.

Get the lifetime subscription.

I went new and lifetime subscription when I did it.

Crunching the numbers it made sense; and I loathe monthly fees...
